Causes and biophysical consequences of cellulose production by Pseudomonas fluorescens SBW25 at the air-liquid interface

open access: yes, 2019
Cellulose over-producing wrinkly spreader mutants of Pseudomonas fluorescens SBW25 have been the focus of much investigation, but conditions promoting the production of cellulose in ancestral SBW25, its effects and consequences have escaped in-depth ...

Deciphering transcriptional plasticity in pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma reveals alterations in sensory neuron innervation

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Pancreatic sensory neurons innervating healthy and PDAC tissue were retrogradely labeled and profiled by single‐cell RNA sequencing. Tumor‐associated innervation showed a dominant neurofilament‐positive subtype, altered mitochondrial gene signatures, and reduced non‐peptidergic neurons.

Morphological and Functional Evaluation of Kodkod (Leopardus guigna) Oocytes After In Vitro Maturation and Parthenogenetic Activation

open access: yesAnimals
The kodkod (Leopardus guigna) is a vulnerable wild felid native to South America whose population is steadily declining. ARTs offer valuable tools for the preservation of its genetic diversity. Our study provides the first evaluation of the morphological

CCDC80 suppresses high‐grade serous ovarian cancer migration via negative regulation of B7‐H3

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
PAX8 is a lineage‐specific master regulator of transcription in high‐grade serous ovarian cancer (HGSC) progression. We show for the first time that PAX8 facilitates proliferation and metastasis by repressing the cell autonomous tumor suppressor CCDC80 and inducing B7‐H3 expression.

Integrins engage mitochondrial function for signal transduction by a mechanism dependent on Rho GTPases. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2002
We show here the transient activation of the small GTPase Rac, followed by a rise in reactive oxygen species (ROS), as necessary early steps in a signal transduction cascade that lead to NFkappaB activation and collagenase-1 (CL-1)/matrix ...

KDM7A and KDM1A inhibition suppresses tumour promoting pathways in prostate cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Treatment resistance is a major challenge for patients with advanced prostate cancer. This study examined an alternative approach to target the major prostate cancer‐promoting pathway by targeting epigenetic factors, whose levels are higher in tumours.

Cell‐cycle‐specific lesion evolution rather than inhibition of double‐strand‐break repair underpins cisplatin radiosensitization

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We analyze cisplatin–DNA adducts (CDAs) and double‐strand breaks (DSBs) in a cell‐cycle‐dependent manner. We find that CDAs form similarly across all cell cycle phases. DSBs arise only in S‐phase. CDAs might not directly impair DSB repair, but S‐phase DSB lesions evolve in the presence of CDAs and disrupt repair in G2, also causing radiosensitization ...

Meta-analysis of the effects of bovine in vitro embryo production on gene expression

open access: yesAnimal
Bovine embryo production, with both in vivo and in vitro production methods being employed, has acquired worldwide importance. In vitro culture systems, however, often fail to fully replicate the in vivo environment, potentially leading to altered gene ...

How to read a book both ways: Detecting and understanding the mantled phenotype in oil palm [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
The mantled epigenetic somaclonal variation of oil palm has generated a vast array of research endeavours, both within and outside of our lab. Because of its unpredictable, detrimental effect on palm oil production, we need to discriminate the variant ...
