Determination of analgesic potential of Helicteres isora and molecular involvement of opioids and GABA receptors

open access: yesPhytomedicine Plus
Herbal medicines are used as a source of therapeutic agents as they are safer and less toxic than synthetic drugs. Several species of Helicteres isora (Sterculiaceae) have been documented in folk medicine to have analgesic properties. This study is aimed

Protein pyrophosphorylation by inositol pyrophosphates — detection, function, and regulation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Protein pyrophosphorylation is an unusual signaling mechanism that was discovered two decades ago. It can be driven by inositol pyrophosphate messengers and influences various cellular processes. Herein, we summarize the research progress and challenges of this field, covering pathways found to be regulated by this posttranslational modification as ...

Organ‐specific redox imbalances in spinal muscular atrophy mice are partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotides

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We identified a systemic, progressive loss of protein S‐glutathionylation—detected by nonreducing western blotting—alongside dysregulation of glutathione‐cycle enzymes in both neuronal and peripheral tissues of Taiwanese SMA mice. These alterations were partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotide therapy, revealing persistent redox imbalance as ...

In Vivo Antihypertensive and Ex Vivo Vasodilatory Studies of Taxifolin

open access: yesPharmaceuticals
Background: Hypertension is a leading cause of cardiovascular morbidity and mortality. Taxifolin has shown cardiovascular benefits, but its antihypertensive mechanisms remain poorly defined. This study aimed to comprehensively elucidate the molecular mechanisms underlying Taxifolin’s blood pressure-lowering effects by integrating network pharmacology ...

Transferrin receptor 1‐mediated iron uptake supports thermogenic activation in human cervical‐derived adipocytes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.

Oil-based and oil-free formulations for enhancing cannabidiol bioavailability

open access: yesJournal of Cannabis Research
Background Cannabidiol (CBD) exhibits therapeutic potential due to its analgesic, anxiolytic, anti-inflammatory, and anticonvulsant effects. However, its oral bioavailability is limited by poor water solubility and extensive first-pass metabolism ...
