Selection, maternal effects and inbreeding in reindeer husbandry [PDF]

open access: yes, 2003
In extensive grazing systems where several owners’ flocks are allowed to mix, selection strategies will also interact, due to gene flow between flocks. The aim of the thesis was to analyse breeding schemes in terms of genetic gain and rate of inbreeding (

Genetic Diversity and Impacts of Stocking on Cyprinus carpio Populations in Türkiye: Insights From Mitochondrial, Nuclear, and Microsatellite Markers

open access: yesFisheries Management and Ecology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Understanding genetic diversity and population structure is essential for the sustainable management of widely stocked freshwater species such as common carp (Cyprinus carpio). In this study, we conducted a comprehensive genetic assessment of C.

On the extremum principle of natural with inbreeding

open access: yes, 1997
The extremum principle in the genetical theory of natural selection has been discussed when the population undergoes inbreeding at a constant value of the inbreeding coefficient with constant fitness of the three genotypes possible with two alleles at a ...

FnR: R package for computing inbreeding and numerator relationship coefficients

open access: yesBMC Ecology and Evolution
Background Inbreeding and relationship coefficients are essential for conservation and breeding programs. Whether dealing with a small conserved population or a large commercial population, monitoring the inbreeding rate and designing mating plans that ...

Impact of method choice on inbreeding coefficient estimation : a study of inbreeding in five beef cattle breeds in Norway [PDF]

open access: yes, 2023
In 2020 was genotyping implemented into the populations of Norwegian beef cattle breeds of Hereford, Charolais, Aberdeen Angus, Limousin and Simmental. This development provides an opportunity to estimate genomic inbreeding within the population of these

Hermit beetle (Osmoderma barnabita) habitat selection and movement are shaped by tree microhabitat availability in Eastern Romanian Carpathians

open access: yesInsect Conservation and Diversity, EarlyView.
We conducted the first radio‐tracking study on Osmoderma barnabita to examine the movement ecology and habitat selection in the Eastern Carpathians. A female recorded the longest movement distance and had larger home ranges than males. It showed a preference for Quercus petraea, with wood mould cavities and DBH as key predictors.

A simulation study on the behavior of allelic richness and inbreeding coefficient over generations in fragmented populations of tree species

open access: yesAnnals of Forest Research, 2012
Computer simulations were employed in this study aiming to understand the effects of repeated cycles of inbred mating in isolated populations of tree species with different effective sizes and over up to 1000 generations.

Matrimonial distance, inbreeding coefficient and population size: dhangar data

open access: yes, 1979
Data on the distance between the birthplaces of spouses (matrimonial distance) were collected from 2260 married individuals belonging to 21 endogamous castes of the Dhangar (shepherd) caste-cluster of Maharashtra, India.

Genetic Parameters and Sex‐Specific Architecture of Observed and Latent Fertility Phenotypes in a Closed Breeding Nucleus of an Arctic Salmonid

open access: yesJournal of Animal Breeding and Genetics, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Successful reproduction is a key factor for efficient breeding schemes and sustainable animal farming. Aquaculture breeding programs rely heavily on small fractions of selected breeders to yield large production stocks, given the high fecundity typically observed in these species. In Sweden, Arctic charr (Salvelinus alpinus) is a salmonid with

Genomic dissection of inbreeding depression: a gate to new opportunities

open access: yesRevista Brasileira de Zootecnia
Inbreeding depression, reduction in performance of quantitative traits, including reproduction and survival, caused by inbreeding, is a well-known phenomenon observed in almost all experimental, domesticated, and natural populations.
