When Is an Indole Not an Indole? [PDF]

open access: yesClinical Chemistry, 1998
An indole is not an indole when it is a naphthalene derivative! We routinely measure 5-hydroxyindoleacetic acid (5HIAA) by a long-established method using nitrosonaphthol, as first described by Udenfriend in 1955 (1), but with various modifications to improve specificity (2).

N-Acetyl Indole Linked to a Fused Triazolo/Thiadiazole Scaffold: Synthesis, Single Crystal X-Ray Structure, and Molecular Insight

open access: yesCrystals, 2020
The designed target compound of N-acetyl indole linked to a fused triazolo/thiadiazole scaffold was synthesized via the reaction of 4-amino-5-(1H-indol-2-yl)-1,2,4-triazol-3(2H)-thione as the starting material with acetic anhydride under reflux ...

Selenium Application During Radish (Raphanus sativus) Plant Development Alters Glucosinolate Metabolic Gene Expression and Results in the Production of 4-(methylseleno)but-3-enyl glucosinolate

open access: yesPlants, 2019
Selenium (Se) is an essential micronutrient for human health, entering the diet mainly through the consumption of plant material. Members of the Brassicaceae are Se-accumulators that can accumulate up to 1g Se kg−1 dry weight (DW) from the ...

Increasing sustainability in pork production by using high inclusion levels of co-products distillers dried grains with solubles, wheat middling and canola meal doesn’t affect pig growth performance and meat quality but reduces boar taint [PDF]

open access: yesAnimal Bioscience, 2023
Objective The present study is to examine the effect of high inclusion of co-products in pig diets (referred to as an alternative diet) during the finishing stage on pig growth performance, meat quality and boar taint compounds. Methods Growing pigs were

Sesquiterpenyl indoles

open access: yesNatural Product Reports, 2013
The natural product sesquiterpenyl indoles are structural hybrids from farnesyl pyrophosphate and tryptophan or its precursors, often with unusual and complex structural features, many of them with interesting biological activities. In this review the compounds of this class known until now are classified, a biosynthetic approach of each group is ...

Crystal structure of dimethyl 3,3′-[(3-fluorophenyl)methylene]bis(1H-indole-2-carboxylate)

open access: yesActa Crystallographica Section E, 2014
In the title compound, C27H21FN2O4, the mean planes of the two indole ring systems (r.m.s. deviations = 0.0166 and 0.0086 Å) are approximately perpendicular to one another, making a dihedral angle of 87.8 (5)°; the fluorobenzene ring is twisted with ...

Diversity of the Tryptophanase Gene and Its Evolutionary Implications in Living Organisms

open access: yesMicroorganisms, 2021
Tryptophanase encoded by the gene tnaA is a pyridoxal phosphate-dependent enzyme that catalyses the conversion of tryptophan to indole, which is commonly used as an intra- and interspecies signalling molecule, particularly by microbes.
