Discovering the Potential of Dental Pulp Stem Cells for Corneal Endothelial Cell Production: A Proof of Concept

open access: yesFrontiers in Bioengineering and Biotechnology, 2021
Failure of corneal endothelium cell monolayer is the main cause leading to corneal transplantation. Autologous cell-based therapies are required to reconstruct in vitro the cell monolayer.

Induced Pluripotent Stem Cells in Cardiovascular Medicine [PDF]

open access: yesStem Cells International, 2011
Induced pluripotent stem (iPS) cells are generated by reprogramming human somatic cells through the forced expression of several embryonic stem (ES) cell-specific transcription factors. The potential of iPS cells is having a significant impact on regenerative medicine, with the promise of infinite self-renewal, differentiation into multiple cell types,

Histone Deacetylase 6 Brain PET in Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis‐Frontotemporal Spectrum Disorder

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective [18F]EKZ‐001 is a positron emission tomography (PET) tracer targeting histone deacetylase 6 (HDAC6), an enzyme responsible for intracellular transport and clearance of misfolded proteins. HDAC6 modulation is a promising treatment strategy in neurodegenerative disorders, including amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS).

Stability and Hopf bifurcation in a mathematical model of pluripotent stem cell dynamics [PDF]

open access: yesNonlinear Analysis Real World Applications 6, 4 (2005) 651-670, 2009
We study a mathematical model describing the dynamics of a pluripotent stem cell population involved in the blood production process in the bone marrow. This model is a differential equation with a time delay. The delay describes the cell cycle duration and is uniformly distributed on an interval. We obtain stability conditions independent of the delay.

Induced Pluripotent Stem Cells and Periodontal Regeneration [PDF]

open access: yesCurrent Oral Health Reports, 2015
Periodontitis is a chronic inflammatory disease which leads to destruction of both the soft and hard tissues of the periodontium. Tissue engineering is a therapeutic approach in regenerative medicine that aims to induce new functional tissue regeneration via the synergistic combination of cells, biomaterials, and/or growth factors.

Pathway Analyses of Inherited Neuropathies Identify Putative Common Mechanisms of Axon Degeneration

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective Inherited neuropathies (IN) are associated with over 100 different genetic mutations presenting with a variety of phenotypes. This complexity suggests multiple pathways may converge onto a limited number of downstream pathways to effect axonal injury.

A stable chimeric fibroblast growth factor (FGF) can successfully replace basic FGF in human pluripotent stem cell culture. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2015
Fibroblast growth factors (FGFs) are essential for maintaining self-renewal in human embryonic stem cells and induced pluripotent stem cells. Recombinant basic FGF (bFGF or FGF2) is conventionally used to culture pluripotent stem cells; however, because ...

Self-Organizing 3D Human Neural Tissue Derived from Induced Pluripotent Stem Cells Recapitulate Alzheimer’s Disease Phenotypes

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2016
The dismal success rate of clinical trials for Alzheimer’s disease (AD) motivates us to develop model systems of AD pathology that have higher predictive validity.
