Critical features of an in vitro intestinal absorption model to study the first key aspects underlying food allergen sensitization

open access: yesComprehensive Reviews in Food Science and Food Safety, Volume 22, Issue 2, Page 971-1005, March 2023., 2023
Abstract New types of protein sources will enter our diet in a near future, reinforcing the need for a straightforward in vitro (cell‐based) screening model to test and predict the safety of these novel proteins, in particular their potential risk for de novo allergic sensitization. The Adverse Outcome Pathway (AOP) for allergen sensitization describes

Fatty Acid Profile and Chemical Composition of Oil from Six Varieties of Lupine (Lupinus mutabilis) Consumed in Peru

open access: yesJournal of Food Quality, Volume 2023, Issue 1, 2023., 2023
Background. The characterization and evaluation of the nutritional composition of lupine (Lupinus mutabilis) seeds has a long history. However, the determination of the fatty acid profile has only been carried out in a few varieties. Objective. This study determined the fatty acid profile and chemical composition of the oil of six varieties of lupine ...

Crystal structure of a family VIII β‐lactamase fold hydrolase reveals the molecular mechanism for its broad substrate scope

open access: yesThe FEBS Journal, Volume 289, Issue 21, Page 6714-6730, November 2022., 2022
We present a comprehensive biochemical and structural study of a family VIII ester hydrolase with a broad and unusual substrate profile, including acyltransferase activities. A wide catalytic cavity accepts an ample set of different esters, some being relevant to plastic and mycotoxin degradation.

The calcium sensor CBL7 is required for Serendipita indica‐induced growth stimulation in Arabidopsis thaliana, controlling defense against the endophyte and K+ homoeostasis in the symbiosis

open access: yesPlant, Cell &Environment, Volume 45, Issue 11, Page 3367-3382, November 2022., 2022
Abstract Calcium is an important second messenger in plants. The activation of Ca2+ signalling cascades is critical in the activation of adaptive processes in response to environmental stimuli. Root colonization by the growth promoting endophyte Serendipita indica involves the increase of cytosolic Ca2+ levels in Arabidopsis thaliana.

d‐Pinitol promotes tau dephosphorylation through a cyclin‐dependent kinase 5 regulation mechanism: A new potential approach for tauopathies?

open access: yesBritish Journal of Pharmacology, Volume 179, Issue 19, Page 4655-4672, October 2022., 2022
Background and Purpose Recent evidence links brain insulin resistance with neurodegenerative diseases, where hyperphosphorylated tau protein contributes to neuronal cell death. In the present study, we aimed to evaluate if d‐pinitol inositol, which acts as an insulin sensitizer, affects the phosphorylation status of tau protein.

Feeding the City and Making the Revolution: Women and Urban Agriculture in Barcelona during the Spanish Civil War (1936–1939)

open access: yesAntipode, Volume 54, Issue 4, Page 1021-1042, July 2022., 2022
Abstract The everyday difficulties faced by working‐class women, including access to food, are aggravated in critical periods, such as wars and economic crises. However, the Spanish Civil War (1936–1939) was accompanied by a revolution, in the Republican zones, where women opened spaces for their emancipation. By examining social reproduction practices

Identifying Pathways for Climate-Resilient Multispecies Fisheries

open access: yesFrontiers in Marine Science, 2021
Fish live in communities, and most fisheries catch multiple species, yet fishery management predominately focuses on single species. In many multispecies fisheries, a variety of species are generally caught together at similar rates.
