Information Freshness in Cache Updating Systems [PDF]

open access: yesIEEE Transactions on Wireless Communications, 2021
We consider a cache updating system with a source, a cache and a user. There are $n$ files. The source keeps the freshest version of the files which are updated with known rates $λ_i$. The cache downloads and keeps the freshest version of the files from the source with rates $c_i$. The user gets updates from the cache with rates $u_i$.

Partial Updates: Losing Information for Freshness [PDF]

open access: yes2020 IEEE International Symposium on Information Theory (ISIT), 2020
We consider an information updating system where a source produces updates as requested by a transmitter. The transmitter further processes these updates in order to generate $partial$ $updates$, which have smaller information compared to the original updates, to be sent to a receiver.

Controlling Packet Drops to Improve Freshness of Information [PDF]

open access: yes, 2021
Many systems require frequent and regular updates of a certain information. These updates have to be transferred regularly from the source to the destination. We consider scenarios in which an old packet becomes completely obsolete, in the presence of a new packet. In this context, if a new packet arrives at the source while it is transferring a packet,

Temporal ranking for fresh information retrieval [PDF]

open access: yesProceedings of the sixth international workshop on Information retrieval with Asian languages -, 2003
In business, the retrieval of up-to-date, or fresh, information is very important. It is difficult for conventional search engines based on a centralized architecture to retrieve fresh information, because they take a long time to collect documents via Web robots.

Information Freshness for Timely Detection of Status Changes [PDF]

open access: yes2020 54th Annual Conference on Information Sciences and Systems (CISS), 2020
In this paper, we aim to establish the connection between Age of Information (AoI) in network theory, information uncertainty in information theory, and detection delay in time series analysis. We consider a dynamic system whose state changes at discrete time points, and a state change won't be detected until an update generated after the change point ...

Accounting for Information Freshness in Scheduling of Content Caching [PDF]

open access: yesICC 2020 - 2020 IEEE International Conference on Communications (ICC), 2020
In this paper, we study the problem of optimal scheduling of content placement along time in a base station with limited cache capacity, taking into account jointly the offloading effect and freshness of information. We model offloading based on popularity in terms of the number of requests and information freshness based on the notion of age of ...

Information Freshness-Guaranteed and Energy-Efficient Data Generation Control System in Energy Harvesting Internet of Things

open access: yesIEEE Access, 2020
In energy harvesting Internet of Things (IoT) systems, the age of information (AoI) should be maintained at a low level to guarantee the accuracy and reliability of derived decisions.
