Comparison of the renal safety between carbon dioxide absorbent products under sevoflurane anesthesia: a pilot study [PDF]

open access: yesKorean Journal of Anesthesiology, 2012
BackgroundThe chemical reaction of carbon dioxide absorbent and sevoflurane is known to produce compound A. However, carbon dioxide absorbents are not controlled by the Food and Drug Administration, but are treated as industrial products in some nations.

Simple and inexpensive delivery of halogenated inhalation anesthetics to rodents

open access: yes, 1989
Halogenated inhalation anesthetics offer several advantages over injectable anesthetics for small-animal surgery. Benefits include rapid induction, easy adjustment of anesthetic depth, and a short period of recovery. Although the cost of most inhalation

Long‐term hippocampal alterations and cognitive impairment in a murine model of surgical sepsis

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Using a mouse model of surgical sepsis, we tested long‐term memory and analyzed the transcriptome of single cells isolated from the hippocampus. Survivor mice showed worse memory, loss of certain brain cell subpopulations, and abnormal immune cell activity—suggesting that post‐sepsis brain alterations may be linked to cognitive deficits.

Isoflurane induces Art2‐Rsp5‐dependent endocytosis of Bap2 in yeast

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, 2021
Although general anesthesia is indispensable during modern surgical procedures, the mechanism by which inhalation anesthetics act on the synaptic membrane at the molecular and cellular level is largely unknown.

Spatiotemporal Drug Delivery via a Neonatal Spinal Cord ECM Hydrogel for Biomimetic Microenvironment Remodeling After Spinal Cord Injury

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A biomimetic hydrogel derived from neonatal spinal cord ECM (DNSCM) delivers LAMB2 protein and ISP peptide to remodel the inhibitory injury microenvironment. The system sustains drug release, upregulates pro‐regenerative LAMB2, downregulates inhibitory CSPG, and promotes axonal regeneration.

Co‐Electrospinning Extracellular Matrix with Polycaprolactone Enables a Modular Approach to Balance Bioactivity and Mechanics of a Multifunctional Bone Wrap

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
The incorporation of nondigested ECM and synthetic polymers into a co‐electrospinning system enables the decoupling of bioactivity and mechanical properties within a single wrap. This technique is used to develop a multifunctional bone wrap that achieves augmented membrane durability, sustained infection control, and enhanced vascularity for use in ...
