Temporal Discounting in Heroin-Dependent Patients: No Sign Effect, Weaker Magnitude Effect, and the Relationship With Inhibitory Control

open access: yes, 2012
Impulsive behavior in heroin-dependent individuals and matched smokers was studied within the framework of temporal discounting. Two well-known effects were examined: the sign and magnitude effects (Kirby, 1997).

Emergence of beta/gamma oscillations: ING, PING, and what about RING?

open access: yes, 2011
Poster presentation from Twentieth Annual Computational Neuroscience Meeting: CNS*2011 Stockholm, Sweden. 23-28 July 2011. Background: Oscillatory activity in high-beta and gamma bands (20-80Hz) is known to play an important role in cortical processing ...

Transcriptome Analysis Reveals AI-2 Relevant Genes of Multi-Drug Resistant Klebsiella pneumoniae in Response to Eugenol at Sub-MIC

open access: yesFrontiers in Microbiology, 2019
Eugenol, the major active essential oil component of clove, was reported to possess QS (quorum sensing) inhibitory activity. A previous study found that eugenol could bind to quorum sensing receptors of Pseudomonas aeruginosa and down-regulate the ...

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

The Inhibitory Effect of Resveratrol on Elastin Amyloidogenesis [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
The role of polyphenols in the prevention of degenerative diseases is emerging in the last years. In this report, we will investigate in vitro the inhibitory effect of resveratrol on elastin amyloidogenesis.

Valosin‐containing protein counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its ATPase activity in vitro

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Biomolecular condensates formed by fused in sarcoma (FUS) are dissolved by high ATP concentrations yet persist in cells. Using a reconstituted system, we demonstrate that valosin‐containing protein (VCP), an AAA+ ATPase, counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its D2 ATPase activity.

Suppression of Metal Particles by Coating for a ±550 kV DC GIS

open access: yesEnergies
Coating the inner surface of grounded enclosures has been used to inhibit metal particle motion inside AC GIS for many years. However, for DC GIS, only fundamental research has been performed, while very few attempts have been made on real DC GIS.
