Disinhibition, an emerging pharmacology of learning and memory [version 1; referees: 3 approved]

open access: yesF1000Research, 2017
Learning and memory are dependent on interactive excitatory and inhibitory mechanisms. In this review, we discuss a mechanism called disinhibition, which is the release of an inhibitory constraint that effectively results in an increased activity in the ...

Optimization of the Production of Rubber Compounds Using Mathematical Models

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Rubber compounds were mixed in a batch internal mixer, and symbolic regression was used to derive mathematical models linking recipe and process parameters to ram path, torque, and mixing quality (incorporation, dispersion, distribution). Subsequent optimization with evolutionary algorithms identified operating conditions that reduce specific energy ...

Mining Bovine Milk Proteins for DPP-4 Inhibitory Peptides Using Machine Learning and Virtual Proteolysis

open access: yesResearch
Dipeptidyl peptidase-IV (DPP-4) enzyme inhibitors are a promising category of diabetes medications. Bioactive peptides, particularly those derived from bovine milk proteins, play crucial roles in inhibiting the DPP-4 enzyme.

Stretching the Printability Metric in Direct‐Ink Writing with Highly Extensible Yield‐Stress Fluids

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This study introduces “drawability” as a new metric for assessing printability in direct‐ink writing, focusing on gap‐spanning performance and speed robustness. By designing yield‐stress fluids with high extensibility, we demonstrate that extensional strain‐to‐break significantly enhances printability.

A novel bioinformatics pipeline for the identification of immune inhibitory receptors as potential therapeutic targets

open access: yeseLife
Despite major successes with inhibitory receptor blockade in cancer, the identification of novel inhibitory receptors as putative drug targets is needed due to lack of durable responses, therapy resistance, and side effects.

Anticipatory Semantic Processes [PDF]

open access: yes, 2000
Why anticipatory processes correspond to cognitive abilities of living systems? To be adapted to an environment, behaviors need at least i) internal representations of events occurring in the external environment; and ii) internal anticipations of ...
