Molecular insights on the proangiogenic effects of VEGF like growth factor derived from horseshoe crab perivitelline fluid

open access: yesScientific Reports
The current study investigated the proangiogenic effects of fraction VII of perivitelline fluid (hscPVF-VEGF) obtained from the late-stage embryos of Indian horseshoe crab (Tachypleus gigas; Müller) using human umbilical cord tissue-derived MSCs (hUCMSCs)

Interferon Lambda Genetics and Biology in Regulation of Viral Control

open access: yesFrontiers in Immunology, 2017
Type III interferons, also known as interferon lambdas (IFNλs), are the most recent addition to the IFN family following their discovery in 2003. Initially, IFNλ was demonstrated to induce expression of interferon-stimulated genes and exert antiviral ...

Major components of fish immunity: a review [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Fish are fascinating creatures with a certain degree of immunity comparable to those of mammals. The fish's immune system consists of two major components, innate and adaptive immunities.

Digital twins to accelerate target identification and drug development for immune‐mediated disorders

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Digital twins integrate patient‐derived molecular and clinical data into personalised computational models that simulate disease mechanisms. They enable rapid identification and validation of therapeutic targets, prediction of drug responses, and prioritisation of candidate interventions.

Unlocking the potential for microbiome‐based therapeutics to address the sustainable development goal of good health and wellbeing

open access: yesMicrobial Biotechnology
Recent years have witnessed major advances and an ever‐growing list of healthcare applications for microbiome‐based therapeutics. However, these advances have disproportionately targeted diseases common in high‐income countries (HICs).

Suppression of lung adenocarcinoma migration through organelle alkalization by human lactoferrin – albumin fusion

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
This paper reveals how human lactoferrin–albumin fusion (hLF‐HSA) potently suppresses lung adenocarcinoma cell migration. hLF‐HSA upregulates NHE7, leading to Golgi alkalization, disruption of the Golgi secretome, downregulation of MMP1, and reversal of EMT. These findings suggest a novel Golgi‐targeting strategy to suppress cancer cell migration.

Dissecting Cell Death Pathways in Influenza A Virus Infection: Comparative Insights from Human Models

open access: yesViruses
Influenza A virus remains a major global health threat, causing annual epidemics and occasional pandemics. Programmed cell death, including apoptosis, pyroptosis, and necroptosis, with emerging evidence for ferroptosis, plays a dual role in influenza ...

Pathogen Response Genes Mediate Caenorhabditis elegans Innate Immunity

open access: yes, 2012
Innate immunity is crucial in the response and defense against pathogens for invertebrates and vertebrates alike. The soil nematode Caenorhabditis elegans is a useful model to study the eukaryotic innate immune response to microbial pathogenesis.
