Inositol supplementation - known and possible applications

open access: yesJournal of Education, Health and Sport, 2022
Introduction: Myo-inositol (MYO) and D-chiro-inositol are chemical compounds known to exert an impact on multiple signaling pathways of a human body. Due to its effects on insulin metabolism and ovaries’ hormone activity their use in polycystic ovary ...

Cellular IP6 Levels Limit HIV Production while Viruses that Cannot Efficiently Package IP6 Are Attenuated for Infection and Replication [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Summary: HIV-1 hijacks host proteins to promote infection. Here we show that HIV is also dependent upon the host metabolite inositol hexakisphosphate (IP6) for viral production and primary cell replication.

Mammalian inositol polyphosphate multikinase synthesizes inositol 1,4,5-trisphosphate and an inositol pyrophosphate [PDF]

open access: yesProceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, 2001
Using a consensus sequence in inositol phosphate kinase, we have identified and cloned a 44-kDa mammalian inositol phosphate kinase with broader catalytic capacities than any other member of the family and which we designate mammalian inositol phosphate multikinase (mIPMK).

Myo-Inositol and Its Derivatives: Their Emerging Role in the Treatment of Human Diseases

open access: yesFrontiers in Pharmacology, 2019
Myo-inositol has been established as an important growth-promoting factor of mammalian cells and animals. The role of myo-inositol as a lipotropic factor has been proven, in addition to its involvement as co-factors of enzymes and as messenger molecules ...

The Inositol- 1,4,5=Trisphosphate System Is Involved in Rapid Effects of Aldosterone in Human Mononuclear Leukocytes [PDF]

open access: yes, 1993
There is increasing evidence for rapid steroid action on electrolyte transport in human mononuclear leukocytes (HML). In HML, aldosterone stimulates the Na+/H+ antiporter within a few minutes. Because a variety of hormones and growth factors activate the

Inositol phosphates are assembly co-factors for HIV-1

open access: yesNature, 2018
A short, 14-amino-acid segment called SP1, located in the Gag structural protein1, has a critical role during the formation of the HIV-1 virus particle.

A role for Gle1, a regulator of DEAD-box RNA helicases, at centrosomes and basal bodies. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Control of organellar assembly and function is critical to eukaryotic homeostasis and survival. Gle1 is a highly conserved regulator of RNA-dependent DEAD-box ATPase proteins, with critical roles in both mRNA export and translation.

Myo-inositol effects in women with PCOS: a meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials

open access: yesEndocrine Connections, 2017
Myo-inositol (MI) supplementation in women with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) has been evaluated over the last years. Many hormonal and reproductive impairments associated with this disorder seem relieved by the supplement.

Effects of inositol starvation on the levels of inositol phosphates and inositol lipids in Neurospora crassa [PDF]

open access: yesBiochemical Journal, 1993
An inositol-requiring strain of Neurospora crassa was labelled during growth in liquid medium with [3H]inositol, and the levels of inositol phosphates and phosphoinositides were determined under inositol-sufficient and inositol-starved conditions.

A Solanum tuberosum inositol phosphate kinase (StITPK1) displaying inositol phosphate–inositol phosphate and inositol phosphate–ADP phosphotransferase activities [PDF]

open access: yesFEBS Letters, 2008
We describe a multifunctional inositol polyphosphate kinase/phosphotransferase from Solanum tuberosum, StITPKα (GenBank accession number: EF362784), hereafter called StITPK1. StITPK1 displays inositol 3,4,5,6‐tetrakisphosphate 1‐kinase activity: K m = 27 μM, and V max = 19 nmol min−1 mg−1.
