Myo-inositol hexakisphosphate degradation by Bifidobacterium infantis ATCC 15697

International Journal of Food Microbiology, 2007
The ability of five strains of different bifidobacterial species (Bifidobacterium animalis, B. bifidum, B. infantis, B. longum, B. pseudolongum) isolated from human and animal gut to degrade myo-inositol hexaphosphate or phytic acid (InsP(6)) has been evaluated.

Inositol hexakisphosphate and sulfonylureas regulate β-cell protein phosphatases

Biochemical and Biophysical Research Communications, 2004
In human type 2 diabetes, loss of glucose-stimulated insulin exocytosis from the pancreatic beta-cell is an early pathogenetic event. Mechanisms controlling insulin exocytosis are, however, not fully understood. We show here that inositol hexakisphosphate (InsP(6)), whose concentration transiently increases upon glucose stimulation, dose-dependently ...

A Conserved Family of Enzymes That Phosphorylate Inositol Hexakisphosphate

Science, 2007
Inositol pyrophosphates are a diverse group of high-energy signaling molecules whose cellular roles remain an active area of study. We report a previously uncharacterized class of inositol pyrophosphate synthase and find it is identical to yeast Vip1 and Asp1 proteins, regulators of actin-related protein-2/3 (ARP 2/3) complexes.

Phytate (Myo-inositol hexakisphosphate) inhibits cardiovascular calcifications in rats

Frontiers in Bioscience, 2006
Calcification is an undesirable disorder, which frequently occurs in the heart vessels. In general, the formation of calcific vascular lesions involves complex physicochemical and molecular events. Calcification (hydroxyapatite) is initiated by injury and is progressed by promoter factors and/or the deficit of inhibitory signals.

Inositol hexakisphosphate and beta-cell stimulus-secretion coupling.

Anticancer research, 2000
Inositol hexakisphosphate (InsP6) inhibits serine/threonine protein phosphatases type-1 (PP1), type-2A (PP2A) and type-3 (PP3) in a concentration-dependent manner. Since the activity of voltage-gated L-type Ca(2+)-channels is increased by inhibition of serine/threonine protein phosphatases, this may explain trhe increased Ca(2+)-channel activity ...
