An ambient-temperature storage and stabilization device performs comparably to flash-frozen collection for stool metabolomics in infants

open access: yesBMC Microbiology, 2021
Background Stool metabolites provide essential insights into the function of the gut microbiome. The current gold standard for storage of stool samples for metabolomics is flash-freezing at − 80 °C which can be inconvenient and expensive.

Synthesis, Antitumor Activity Evaluation and Mechanistic Study of Novel Bis‐Heterocyclic Chalcones Against Liver Cancer

open access: yesJournal of Clinical Laboratory Analysis, EarlyView.
Western blotting was performed to analyze the expression of Caspase 3 and Cleaved‐Caspase 3 in Huh1 cells following different treatments, which supports the finding that bis‐heterocyclic chalcones 3d and 3f can inhibit the activity of hepatocellular carcinoma cells by inducing apoptosis.

Structural Characterization of Porous Photo‐Crosslinked Hybrid Networks Based on Collagen‐Poly(Trimethylene Carbonate)

open access: yesMacromolecular Materials and Engineering, EarlyView.
Hybrid networks combining natural and synthetic polymers into one network may result in networks with good bioactivity, suitable mechanical properties, and high control over degradation. This study shows that phase‐separated networks are obtained with the collagen phase acting as multifunctional crosslinks.

Non-alcoholic Steatohepatitis: Global Impact and Clinical Consequences

open access: yesEuropean Medical Journal Hepatology, 2022
Non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH) is the potentially progressive form of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD). NAFLD and NASH are very common in most regions of the world and are on trajectory to become the most common liver disease at a global ...

Yield of Whole Genome Sequencing for Pathogenic Single Nucleotide Variants in Congenital Heart Disease: A Systematic Review and Meta‐Analysis

open access: yesPrenatal Diagnosis, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective This systematic review and meta‐analysis aimed to assess the diagnostic yield of pathogenic or likely pathogenic (P/LP) single nucleotide variants (SNVs) using whole genome sequencing (WGS) in congenital heart disease (CHD). Methods A systematic search of three databases (2000–2024) was conducted, and two reviewers independently ...

Young Adults Are at Highest Risk of Liver Fibrosis and Mortality Associated With Steatotic Liver Disease With Metabolic Dysfunction and Alcohol Consumption

open access: yesHepatology Research, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Alcohol consumption in patients with steatotic liver disease (SLD) with metabolic dysfunction (MD) increases the risk of liver fibrosis and mortality. However, whether these risks vary by age remains poorly understood. Methods Data from NHANES‐III were used, including participants with data on SLD, alcohol consumption, and mortality.

Experimental realization of a fetching algorithm in a 7 qubit NMR quantum computer [PDF]

open access: yes, 2002
Searching for marked items from an unsorted database is an important scientific problem and a benchmark for computing devices as well. Using a 7-qubit liquid NMR quantum computer, we have demonstrated successfully an hybrid quantum fetching algorithm ...
