“Is This Edible Anyway?” The Impact of Culture on the Evolution (and Devolution) of Mushroom Knowledge

open access: yesTopics in Cognitive Science, EarlyView.
Abstract Mushrooms are a ubiquitous and essential component in our biological environment and have been of interest to humans around the globe for millennia. Knowledge about mushrooms represents a prime example of cumulative culture, one of the key processes in human evolution.

Caloric restriction and aerobic exercise differentially counteract muscle–tendon dysfunction following diet‐induced obesity in C57BL/6J mice

open access: yesThe Journal of Physiology, EarlyView.
Abstract figure legend Diet‐induced obesity induced fibro‐adipogenic remodelling of the muscle–tendon unit, characterized by increased fibrosis, reduced specific force, impaired relaxation kinetics, elevated hysteresis, and reduced aerobic capacity and glucose tolerance.

Avian Eggshell Evolutionary Adaptations Inform Biomimetic Strategies for Next‑Generation Precision Cancer Theranostics

open access: yesAdvanced Oncology, Volume 1, Issue 1, December 2026.
ABSTRACT The avian eggshell is a sophisticated, multi‐functional biocomposite and, more importantly, an autonomous life‐support system evolved to safeguard embryonic development across dynamic and hostile environments. Discussing eggshell‐inspired biomaterials beyond simple structural imitation, this review translates these evolutionary survival ...

Mucuna pruriens as a Sustainable Functional Food: Applications From Seed to Product

open access: yesModern Agriculture, Volume 4, Issue 2, December 2026.
This review highlights Mucuna pruriens as a nutrient‐rich legume with significant nutritional, therapeutic, and agricultural value. Its protein‐rich seeds contain essential minerals and L‐DOPA, but high antinutritional compounds require effective processing before consumption.

Assessment of Phytochemical Compounds and Antioxidant Potential of West Indian Avocado (Persea americana) Peel From Substandard‐Quality Fruits as a Valorisation Strategy

open access: yesPhytochemicals in Food and Medicine, Volume 1, Issue 4, December 2026.
West Indian avocado peels discarded because of low‐commercial‐quality were evaluated as a source of bioactive compounds. Avocado peels contained high levels of phenolic compounds and showed strong antioxidant capacity. These results support avocado peel valorisation within functional foods, circular and sustainable food systems.

Protease and Phytase Alleviate Digestive Limitations of Canola Seed in Broiler Chickens

open access: yesVeterinary Medicine and Science, Volume 12, Issue 6, November 2026.
Protease and phytase, especially in combination, counteracted the digestive limitations of 10% canola seed in broiler diets by improving nutrient utilisation, intestinal health, microbial balance, digesta viscosity, bone quality and growth performance.
