Evasion of anti-growth signaling: a key step in tumorigenesis and potential target for treatment and prophylaxis by natural compounds [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
The evasion of anti-growth signaling is an important characteristic of cancer cells. In order to continue to proliferate, cancer cells must somehow uncouple themselves from the many signals that exist to slow down cell growth.

Insulin-like growth factors and insulin-like growth factor binding proteins in mammary gland function [PDF]

open access: yesBreast Cancer Research, 2002
Insulin-like growth factor (IGF)-mediated proliferation and survival are essential for normal development in the mammary gland during puberty and pregnancy. IGFs interact with IGF-binding proteins and regulate their function. The present review focuses on the role of IGFs and IGF-binding proteins in the mammary gland and describes how modulation of ...

Insulin-like growth factor (IGF)-I and IGF binding proteins axis in diabetes mellitus [PDF]

open access: yesAnnals of Pediatric Endocrinology & Metabolism, 2015
Increasing evidence suggests an important role of the insulin-like growth factor (IGF)-IGF binding protein (IGFBP) axis in the maintenance of normal glucose and lipid metabolism. Significant changes occur in the local IGF-I-IGFBPs environment in response

Insulin-like growth factor 1 gene (CA)n repeats and a variable number of tandem repeats of the insulin gene in Brazilian children born small for gestational age [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
OBJECTIVE: To investigate the influence of (CA)n repeats in the insulin-like growth factor 1 gene and a variable number of tandem repeats of the insulin gene on birth size in children who are small or adequate-sized for gestational age and to ...

Bioengineering facets of the tumor microenvironment in 3D tumor models: insights into cellular, biophysical and biochemical interactions

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
The tumor microenvironment is a dynamic, multifaceted complex system of interdependent cellular, biochemical, and biophysical components. Three‐dimensional in vitro models of the tumor microenvironment enable a better understanding of these interactions and their impact on cancer progression and therapeutic resistance.

Measuring and Analyzing the Shares of Economic Growth Sources in the Mining Sector of Iran: A Neoclassical Growth Accounting Approach [PDF]

open access: yesIranian Economic Journal - Macroeconomics (IEJM), No. 13, pp. 121-142, 2016
The purpose of this study is to measure the Total Factor Productivity (TFP) growth and determine the share of each of the economic growth sources in the mining sector of Iran. The time period of this study is 1355-1385 of the Solar Hijri calendar (roughly overlaying with the time period of 1976-2006 of the Gregorian calendar). In this paper, the shares

Growth mode control of the free carrier density in SrTiO3-d films [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
We have studied the growth dynamics and electronic properties of SrTiO3-d homoepitaxial films by pulsed laser deposition. We find the two dominant factors determining the growth mode are the kinetics of surface crystallization and oxidation. When matched, persistent two-dimensional layer-by-layer growth can be obtained for hundreds of unit cells.

Systematic Survey of the Role of IGF in the Link Between Diabetes and Cancer [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Epidemiological studies have proposed a link between type II diabetes and cancer via the IGF/insulin signaling pathway, which includes insulin-like peptides (IGF1, IGF2, and insulin), insulin receptors (IR-A, IR-B, IGF1R, and hybrids), and insulin ...

Long non‐coding RNAs as therapeutic targets in head and neck squamous cell carcinoma and clinical application

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Long non‐coding RNAs (lncRNAs) occupy an abundant fraction of the eukaryotic transcriptome and an emerging area in cancer research. Regulation by lncRNAs is based on their subcellular localization in HNSCC. This cartoon shows the various functions of lncRNAs in HNSCC discussed in this review.
