Functional muscle hypertrophy by increased insulin-like growth factor 1 does not require dysferlin. [PDF]
IntroductionDysferlin loss-of-function mutations cause muscular dystrophy, accompanied by impaired membrane repair and muscle weakness. Growth promoting strategies including insulin-like growth factor 1 (IGF-1) could provide benefit but may cause ...

TOMM20 increases cancer aggressiveness by maintaining a reduced state with increased NADH and NADPH levels, oxidative phosphorylation (OXPHOS), and apoptosis resistance while reducing reactive oxygen species (ROS) levels. Conversely, CRISPR‐Cas9 knockdown of TOMM20 alters these cancer‐aggressive traits.

Fish Growth Trajectory Tracking via Reinforcement Learning in Precision Aquaculture [PDF]
This paper studies the fish growth trajectory tracking via reinforcement learning under a representative bioenergetic growth model. Due to the complex aquaculture condition and uncertain environmental factors such as temperature, dissolved oxygen, un-ionized ammonia, and strong nonlinear couplings, including multi-inputs of the fish growth model, the ...

Mapping of the insulin-like growth factor II binding site of the Type I insulin-like growth factor receptor by alanine scanning mutagenesis [PDF]
The Type I insulin-like growth factor receptor is a physiological receptor for insulin-like growth factor II (IGF-II). To characterize the molecular basis of the receptor's ligand binding properties, we have examined the effects of alanine mutations of ...

Presurgery 72‐h fasting in GB patients leads to adaptations of plasma lipids and polar metabolites. Fasting reduces lysophosphatidylcholines and increases free fatty acids, shifts triglycerides toward long‐chain TGs and increases branched‐chain amino acids, alpha aminobutyric acid, and uric acid.

Elevated level of cholesterol is positively correlated to prostate cancer development and disease severity. Cholesterol‐lowering drugs, such as statins, are demonstrated to inhibit prostate cancer. VNPP433‐3β interrupts multiple signaling and metabolic pathways, including cholesterol biosynthesis, AR‐mediated transcription of several oncogenes, mRNA 5′

The Fascinating Interplay between Growth Hormone, Insulin-Like Growth Factor-1, and Insulin [PDF]
This review intends to provide the reader with a practical overview of several (patho)physiological conditions in which knowledge of the interplay between growth hormone (GH), insulin-like growth factor-1 (IGF-1), and insulin is important.

Ecdysone promotes growth of imaginal discs through the regulation of Thor in D. melanogaster [PDF]
Animals have a determined species-specific body size that results from the combined action of hormones and signaling pathways regulating growth rate and duration.

Insulin-Like Growth Factors and the Brain [PDF]
The IGFs have interested biologists and physicians for many decades; starting with the somatomedin hypothesis as presented by Daughaday and Salmon in 1957 (1). It was initially thought that somatomedin C (IGF-I) was the liver-derived, circulating form of IGF and controlled postnatal growth in response to GH. After the advent of molecular endocrinology,
