Acute regulation of plasma insulin-like peptide 3 concentrations by luteinizing hormone in male goats

Theriogenology, 2016
Recently, it was reported that in bulls secretion of insulin-like peptide 3 (INSL3) in blood occurred in a pulsatile manner and was acutely regulated by LH. In the present study, the acute regulation of plasma INSL3 and its temporal relationships with LH and testosterone were examined in six sexually matured male goats using the following experimental ...

Design, synthesis and pharmacological evaluation of cyclic mimetics of the insulin‐like peptide 3 (INSL3) B‐chain

Journal of Peptide Science, 2006
AbstractInsulin‐like peptide 3 (INSL3) is a peptide hormone belonging to the relaxin‐insulin superfamily of peptides that plays important roles in testes descent, oocyte maturation and the control of male germ cell apoptosis. These actions are mediated via a specific G‐protein coupled receptor, LGR8.

Plasma insulin-like peptide 3 and testosterone concentrations in male dogs: Changes with age and effects of cryptorchidism

Theriogenology, 2012
The objectives were to: (1) develop a time-resolved fluorescence immunoassay (TRFIA) to measure insulin-like peptide 3 (INSL3) in canine plasma; (2) investigate changes of plasma concentrations of INSL3 and testosterone with age in normal male dogs; and (3) compare hormonal concentrations among cryptorchid, normal, and castrated dogs to evaluate ...

Research progress of insulin-like peptide 3 in bone metabolism

In recent years, attention has been focused on the role of INSL3 and its receptor RXFP2 in bone metabolism in clinical disorders such as hypogonadism and Klinefelter syndrome, where a reduction or absence of INSL3 is often accompanied by bone loss. In addition, INSL3 has been associated with postmenopausal osteoporosis in women.

Insulin-like peptide 3 stimulates testosterone secretion in mouse Leydig cells via cAMP pathway

Regulatory Peptides, 2012
Testicular Leydig cells secrete insulin-like peptide 3 (INSL3) and express its receptor, RXFP2. However, the effects of INSL3 on endocrine function of Leydig cells are unknown. The present study examines the effects of INSL3 on mouse Leydig cells taking testosterone and cAMP secretions as endpoints.

Expression of the insulin-like peptide 3 (INSL3) hormone-receptor (LGR8) system in the testis.

Biology of reproduction, 2006
The new peptide hormone insulin-like peptide 3 (INSL3) is a member of the insulin-relaxin family, yet, unlike insulin, it signals through a new G-protein coupled receptor, LGR8, distantly related to the receptors for LH and FSH. INSL3 is produced in large amounts by the Leydig cells of the testis in both fetal and adult mammals.

Role of the intra-A-chain disulfide bond of insulin-like peptide 3 in binding and activation of its receptor, RXFP2

Peptides, 2010
INSL3 is a member of the insulin-IGF-relaxin superfamily and plays a key role in male fetal development and in adult germ cell maturation. It is the cognate ligand for RXFP2, a leucine-rich repeat containing G-protein coupled receptor. To date, and in contrast to our current knowledge of the key structural features that are required for the binding of ...

Relaxin‐3/insulin‐like peptide 7, a neuropeptide involved in the stress response and food intake

The FEBS Journal, 2010
Relaxin‐3, also known as insulin‐like peptide‐7, is a newly‐identified peptide of the insulin superfamily. All members of this superfamily have a similar structure, which consists of two subunits (A‐chain and B‐chain) linked by disulfide bonds. Relaxin‐3 is so named because it has a motif that can interact with the relaxin receptor.

Recombinant expression of an insulin‐like peptide 3 (INSL3) precursor and its enzymatic conversion to mature human INSL3

The FEBS Journal, 2009
Insulin‐like peptide 3 (INSL3), which is primarily expressed in the Leydig cells of the testes, is a member of the insulin superfamily of peptide hormones. One of its primary functions is to initiate and mediate descent of the testes of the male fetus via interaction with its G protein‐coupled receptor, RXFP2.
