The role and regulation of insulin-like peptide 3 (INSL3) in the female reproductive system

The peptide hormone Insulin-like peptide 3 (INSL3) shows important roles in the reproductive system. In the male, the testicular Leydig cell peptide INSL3 is involved in fetal testis descent and sperm maturation during the adulthood. In females of reproductive age INSL3 is mainly produced by the ovarian follicular theca interna cells.
