Biological role and clinical significance of insulin-like peptide 3
Current Opinion in Endocrinology, Diabetes & Obesity, 2011Insulin-like peptide 3 (INSL3) is the subject of a fast expanding literature reflecting increasing clinical application, particularly as a diagnostic parameter. This review summarizes the recent INSL3 literature published within the last 12-18 months.Significant inroads have been made to understand how INSL3 is working in testicular descent.

In Vitro Degradation of Insulin-like Peptide 3 by Insulin-degrading Enzyme
The Protein Journal, 2010Insulin-like peptide 3 (INSL3) is an insulin superfamily peptide hormone, primarily expressed in the testes and playing a key role in the fetus testes descent and suppression of male germ cell apoptosis. Insulin-degrading enzyme (IDE) is a zinc-metalloprotease, responsible for in vivo degradation of insulin, Abeta, and other peptide hormones.

Correlation between insulin‐like peptide 3 and appendix testis length in congenital cryptorchidism
Journal of Paediatrics and Child Health, 2020AimThe appendix testis (AT) is a vestigial remnant of Müller's paramesonephric duct. Insulin‐like 3 hormone (INSL3) is produced in the Leydig cells of the testis. We investigated the possible correlation between AT length and plasma INSL3 concentrations in patients with congenital cryptorchidism (CCO) and patients with hydrocele, who served as controls.

Recently, it was reported that in bulls secretion of insulin-like peptide 3 (INSL3) in blood occurred in a pulsatile manner and was acutely regulated by LH. In the present study, the acute regulation of plasma INSL3 and its temporal relationships with LH and testosterone were examined in six sexually matured male goats using the following experimental ...

Abstract: Biotin‐avidin immobilization has been routinely used as a tool to study peptide–receptor and peptide–antibody interactions. Biotinylated peptides can also be employed to localize cells that express the peptides’ receptor, and to analyse ligand‐receptor binding.

Abstract: Relaxin‐like factor/insulin‐like peptide (INSL)‐3 is highly expressed in the bovine corpus luteum throughout the estrous cycle and pregnancy. Demonstration of translation of the relaxin‐like factor message was previously shown for the follicle but not the corpus luteum.

Insulin-like peptide 3 stimulates testosterone secretion in mouse Leydig cells via cAMP pathway
Regulatory Peptides, 2012Testicular Leydig cells secrete insulin-like peptide 3 (INSL3) and express its receptor, RXFP2. However, the effects of INSL3 on endocrine function of Leydig cells are unknown. The present study examines the effects of INSL3 on mouse Leydig cells taking testosterone and cAMP secretions as endpoints.

The objectives were to: (1) develop a time-resolved fluorescence immunoassay (TRFIA) to measure insulin-like peptide 3 (INSL3) in canine plasma; (2) investigate changes of plasma concentrations of INSL3 and testosterone with age in normal male dogs; and (3) compare hormonal concentrations among cryptorchid, normal, and castrated dogs to evaluate ...

Expression of the insulin-like peptide 3 (INSL3) hormone-receptor (LGR8) system in the testis.
Biology of reproduction, 2006The new peptide hormone insulin-like peptide 3 (INSL3) is a member of the insulin-relaxin family, yet, unlike insulin, it signals through a new G-protein coupled receptor, LGR8, distantly related to the receptors for LH and FSH. INSL3 is produced in large amounts by the Leydig cells of the testis in both fetal and adult mammals.
