Insulin Receptor Antibodies and Insulin Resistance

Southern Medical Journal, 1999
The presence of insulin receptor antibodies is a rare cause of insulin resistance. Patients usually have a combination of hyperglycemia, insulin resistance, acanthosis nigricans, and autoimmune features. We report a patient with systemic lupus erythematosus and severe insulin resistance due to insulin receptor antibodies.

Insulin Antibodies with Pulmonary Delivery of Insulin

Diabetes Technology & Therapeutics, 2007
Delivery of insulin to the deep lung presents unique challenges to the body's mucosal defense system. Pulmonary mucosal defense has the ability to discriminate between self and non-self antigens and has the potential for induction of immunologic tolerance.

A human monoclonal antibody to insulin

Diabetes, 1986
To elucidate the immune aspects of insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus (IDDM), we attempted to generate human monoclonal anti-insulin antibodies by fusing peripheral blood lymphocytes obtained from 10 insulin-treated IDDM patients with cells from a human lymphoblastoid cell line. Hybridomas that secreted immunoglobulins appeared in 9 of 400 wells.

Insulin antibodies in the pathogenesis of insulin allergy and resistance

The American Journal of Medicine, 1977
Insulin allergy developed in a patient treated with beef/pork insulin. Desensitization therapy led to cessation of the allergy, but it was associated with the development of diabetic ketoacidosis with apparent insulin resistance which was successfully treated with fish insulin.

Insulin Allergy: Reaginic Antibodies to Insulin and Proinsulin*

The Journal of Clinical Endocrinology & Metabolism, 1979
To investigate the involvement of proinsulin (one of the contaminant proteins of therapeutic insulin) in systemic insulin allergy, we studied seven diabetic patients who presented with generalized insulin allergy. Commercial and highly purified (single component) insulins produced almost identical responses on the intradermal tests. In all cases, [125I]

The dissociation of insulin from human insulin antibodies

Biochimica et Biophysica Acta (BBA) - General Subjects, 1976
The dissociation of insulin from human insulin antibodies has been investigated using a technique that is rapid and does not require addition of excess unlabelled insulin. A slow (k1 = 2-10(-3) min-1) and a fast k2 = 4-10(-2) min-1) dissociating antibody component were identified in all studies. These have been shown to correspond, respectively, to the

The Interference of Insulin Antibodies in Insulin Immunometric Assays

Clinical Chemistry and Laboratory Medicine, 2002
We investigated the interference of insulin antibodies in two insulin immunometric assays (Bio-Rad and Elecsys) by measuring direct and free insulin in plasma from 30 patients without insulin antibodies (group 1), as screened by a sensitive radio-binding assay, and in plasma from 80 patients with insulin antibodies (group 2).

Preparation of human antibodies to insulin

Journal of Immunological Methods, 1977
Insulin was directly coupled and also indirectly coupled by a side chain to Sepharose 4B to form immunoabsorbents for affinity chromatography of insulin antibodies. The two direct derivatives were insulin lysyl and insulin phenylalanyl sepharose. The indirect derivative, insulin carboxyhexyl sepharose, was prepared in two ways: by a carbodiimide ...
