Rapid Deep Vat Printing Using Photoclickable Collagen‐Based Bioresins

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Collagen‐based resin formulations based on thiol‐ene photoclick chemistry are demonstrated. These resins enable easy handleability under neutral conditions and further allow facile fabrication of multicellular tissue constructs via tomographic or FLight printing.

Upregulation of α3β1-Integrin in Podocytes in Early-Stage Diabetic Nephropathy

open access: yesJournal of Diabetes Research, 2016
Background. Podocyte injury plays an important role in the onset and progression of diabetic nephropathy (DN). Downregulation of α3β1-integrin expression in podocytes is thought to be associated with podocyte detachment from the glomerular basement ...

Integrin-β1, not integrin-β5, mediates osteoblastic differentiation and ECM formation promoted by mechanical tensile strain

open access: yesBiological Research, 2015
BACKGROUND: Mechanical strain plays a great role in growth and differentiation of osteoblast. A previous study indicated that integrin-β (β1, β5) mediated osteoblast proliferation promoted by mechanical tensile strain.

CD271 downregulation promotes melanoma progression and invasion in 3-dimensional models and in zebrafish [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
CD271 is a neurotrophin receptor variably expressed in melanoma. While contradictory data are reported on its role as a marker of tumor initiating cells, little is known on its function in tumor progression.

An Organ‐on‐Chip Platform for Strain‐Controlled, Tissue‐Specific Compression of Cartilage and Mineralized Osteochondral Interface to Study Mechanical Overloading in Osteoarthritis

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
A mechanically active OsteoChondral Unit (OCU)‐on‐Chip platform mimicking the OCU's functional anatomy and the strain gradient across the osteochondral interface is presented. Upon compartment‐specific hyperphysiological compression, the model replicates mechanisms observed in osteoarthritis (OA) progression, such as calcium crystal accumulation ...

Expressions of type I collagen, α2 integrin and β1 integrin in sclera of guinea pig with defocus myopia and inhibitory effects of bFGF on the formation of myopia

open access: yesInternational Journal of Ophthalmology, 2013
AIM: Toinvestigate the expressions of type I collagen, α2 integrin and β1 integrin in the posterior sclera of guinea pigs with defocus myopia and whether basic fibroblast growth factor (bFGF) injection inhibits the formation and development of myopia by ...

Binding of galectin-1 to integrin β1 potentiates drug resistance by promoting survivin expression in breast cancer cells

open access: yesOncoTarget, 2017
Galectin-1 is a β-galactoside binding protein secreted by many types of aggressive cancer cells. Although many studies have focused on the role of galectin-1 in cancer progression, relatively little attention has been paid to galectin-1 as an ...

From Mechanoelectric Conversion to Tissue Regeneration: Translational Progress in Piezoelectric Materials

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
This review highlights recent progress in piezoelectric materials for regenerative medicine, emphasizing their ability to convert mechanical stimuli into bioelectric signals that promote tissue repair. Key discussions cover the intrinsic piezoelectric properties of biological tissues, co‐stimulation cellular mechanisms for tissue regeneration, and ...

PRL-3 promotes the motility, invasion, and metastasis of LoVo colon cancer cells through PRL-3-integrin β1-ERK1/2 and-MMP2 signaling

open access: yesMolecular Cancer, 2009
Background Phosphatase of regenerating liver-3 (PRL-3) plays a causative role in tumor metastasis, but the underlying mechanisms are not well understood. In our previous study, we observed that PRL-3 could decrease tyrosine phosphorylation of integrin β1

A ligand-independent integrin β1 mechanosensory complex guides spindle orientation

open access: yesNature Communications, 2016
Control of spindle orientation is a fundamental process for embryonic development, morphogenesis and tissue homeostasis, while defects are associated with tumorigenesis and other diseases.
