A Circuit of Mechanically Regulated Transcription Factors Balances Regenerative and Fibrotic Memory of Mesenchymal Stromal Cells

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Producing MSCs on rigid culture substrates induces a scar‐making phenotype, jeapordizing therapeutic success. ‘Tissue‐soft’ surfaces prevent MSC fibrogenesis and preserve regenerative traits. An epigenetic network, driven by HOXA11 and SALL1, maintains ‘soft memory’ by keeping chromatin open in relaxed MSCs, promoting anti‐fibrotic programs.

MicroRNA- 130b suppresses migration and invasion of colorectal cancer cells through downregulation of integrin β1 [corrected].

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2014
MicroRNA 130b (miR-130b) is significantly dysregulated in various human tumor types. In this study, using a microarray assay, we characterized the upregulation of miR-130b expression in colorectal cancer (CRC) specimens.

BMPR2-deficient ECs show increased activation of β1-integrin-ILK mechano-complexes, re-localization of these complexes to cell junctions, and junctional stiffening.

open access: yes, 2019

Selective Inhibition of Integrin β3 Topology Provides a Safer Antithrombotic Strategy

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Current integrin αIIbβ3 inhibitors effectively reduce thrombosis but also increase bleeding risk. During thrombosis, high shear blood flow can directly activate the integrin αIIbβ3 via a distinct topological change in the β3 transmembrane domain, independent of hemostatic platelet signaling.

BIN1 and ALDH1B1 Deficiency in Colonic Smooth Muscle Drives Mitochondrial Dysfunction and Fibrosis in Slow‐Transit Constipation

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Slow‐transit constipation (STC) is a disabling motility disorder with unclear smooth‐muscle mechanisms. Spatial proteomic analysis of STC patient colon reveals both the central pathogenic role of smooth muscle cells (SMCs) in STC and novel regulators of intestinal motility, BIN1 and ALDH1B1.

Endogenous Engineering Reprograms Extracellular Vesicles for Enhanced Therapeutic Function

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This review explains how Extracellular vesicles‐producing cells can be endogenously engineered to load therapeutic proteins and nucleic acids. We summarize physiological and genetic strategies that harness native sorting pathways for selective cargo loading.

Interactions between the discoidin domain receptor 1 and β1 integrin regulate attachment to collagen

open access: yesBiology Open, 2013
Summary Collagen degradation by phagocytosis is essential for physiological collagen turnover and connective tissue homeostasis. The rate limiting step of phagocytosis is the binding of specific adhesion receptors, which include the integrins and ...

Expression of β1 integrin in laminin-adhesion-selected human colon cancer cell lines of varying tumorigenicity

open access: yes, 1994
Laminin has been shown to promote the malignant phenotype and the expression of certain laminin receptors has been correlated with the malignant character of the tumors. Here new cell lines were isolated from a human colon cancer cell line (LCC-C1) based

Functional Disorder at the Neural Interface: How Disordered Nanostructures Promote Proper Growth and Differentiation in In Vitro Neural Cultures

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This work provides a practical guide for neuroengineers to design advanced neural interfaces, embracing and tailoring the concept of functional disorder. By bridging 2D and 3D in vitro models, this work highlights how non‐periodic, spatially heterogeneous, multiscale nanotopography can enable more physiologically relevant platforms for studying neural ...

Expression of Integrins and Extracellular Matrix Proteins in Non-small Cell Lung Cancer:Correlation with Tumor Metastasis and Prognosis

open access: yesChinese Journal of Lung Cancer, 2009
Background and objective As invasion and metastasis of cancer seriously threaten human's life, it is of more important clinical significance to understand and evaluate the biologic behavior of cancer correctly.
