We study a possibility to detect signatures of brown dwarf companions in a circumstellar disc based on spectral energy distributions (SED). We present the results of SED simulations for a system with a 0.8 $M_{\odot}$ central object and a companion with ...

Promiscuous stimulation of HSP70 ATPase activity by parasite‐derived J‐domains
The malaria parasite Plasmodium falciparum exports three highly homologous yet functionally divergent J‐domain proteins into human erythrocytes. Here, we show that J‐domains isolated from all three proteins effectively stimulate the ATPase activity of both endogenous host and exported parasite HSP70 chaperones.

Skin temperatures and heat transfer over wedge wings at extreme speeds of flight [PDF]
By paying spacial attention to the wing design and altitude of flight, it is possible to ensure that the highest temperature reached at the leading edge of the wing of an aircraft, in level flight at speeds of the order of the circling velocity, need be ...

Erythropoietin administration suppresses hepatic soluble epoxide hydrolase (sEH) expression, leading to increased CYP‐derived epoxides. This is associated with a shift in hepatic macrophage polarization characterized by reduced M1 markers and increased M2 markers, along with reduced hepatic inflammation, suppressed hepatic lipogenesis, and attenuated ...

Cooling of young stars growing by disk accretion
In the initial formation stages young stars must acquire a significant fraction of their mass by accretion from a circumstellar disk that forms in the center of a collapsing protostellar cloud. Throughout this period mass accretion rates through the disk

Single‐molecule DNA flow‐stretch assays for high‐throughput DNA–protein interaction studies
We describe an optimised single‐molecule DNA flow‐stretch assay that visualises DNA–protein interactions in real time. Linear DNA fragments are tethered to a surface and stretched by buffer flow for fluorescence imaging. Using λ and φX174 DNA, this protocol enhances reproducibility and accessibility, providing a versatile approach for studying diverse ...

Estimation of the tidal heating in the TRAPPIST-1 planets
With the arrival of JWST observations of the TRAPPIST-1 planets – particularly secondary transit depths and phase curves – it is timely to reassess the contribution of tidal heating to their heat budget.

Sensible and latent heating of the atmosphere as inferred from DST-6 data [PDF]
The average distribution of convective latent heating, boundary layer sensible heat flux, and vertical velocity are determined for the winter 1976 DST period from GLAS model diagnostics. Key features are the regions of intense latent heating over Brazil,

Heating and cooling of magnetars with accreted envelopes
We study the thermal structure and evolution of magnetars as cooling neutron stars with a phenomenological heat source in an internal layer. We focus on the effect of magnetized (B > 10^{14} G) non-accreted and accreted outermost envelopes composed of ...
