Interaction Energies of Generalised Monopoles [PDF]

open access: yes, 1998
Generalisations of the 't Hooft-Polyakov monopole which can exhibit repulsion only, attraction only, and both attraction and repulsion, between like monopoles, are studied numerically.

Phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinase as a target of pathogens—friend or foe?

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This graphical summary illustrates the roles of phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinases (PI4Ks). PI4Ks regulate key cellular processes and can be hijacked by pathogens, such as viruses, bacteria and parasites, to support their intracellular replication. Their dual role as essential host enzymes and pathogen cofactors makes them promising drug targets.

Phenomenological interaction between current quarks [PDF]

open access: yes, 1997
We construct a phenomenological model which describes the dynamical chiral symmetry breaking (DCSB) of QCD vacuum and reproduces meson spectra. Quark condensates, the pion decay constant, and meson spectra are well reproduced by phenomenological ...

Protein pyrophosphorylation by inositol pyrophosphates — detection, function, and regulation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Protein pyrophosphorylation is an unusual signaling mechanism that was discovered two decades ago. It can be driven by inositol pyrophosphate messengers and influences various cellular processes. Herein, we summarize the research progress and challenges of this field, covering pathways found to be regulated by this posttranslational modification as ...

Salivary glands harbor more diverse microbial communities than gut in Anopheles culicifacies

open access: yesParasites & Vectors, 2014
Background In recent years, it has been well documented that gut flora not only influence mosquito physiology, but also significantly alter vector competency.

Enhancing Spinach growth and yield through the synergistic effects of Rhizobacter-Enriched compost [PDF]

open access: yesBIO Web of Conferences
Plant Growth-Promoting Rhizobacteria (PGPR) and compost present promising solutions for bolstering agricultural sustainability by stimulating plant growth and yield while lessening dependence on chemical inputs. Our investigation delved into the combined

The newfound relationship between extrachromosomal DNAs and excised signal circles

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Extrachromosomal DNAs (ecDNAs) contribute to the progression of many human cancers. In addition, circular DNA by‐products of V(D)J recombination, excised signal circles (ESCs), have roles in cancer progression but have largely been overlooked. In this Review, we explore the roles of ecDNAs and ESCs in cancer development, and highlight why these ...

Advanced Image Quality Assessment for Hand- and Finger-Vein Biometrics

open access: yesIET Biometrics
Natural scene statistics commonly used in nonreference image quality measures and a proposed deep-learning (DL)–based quality assessment approach are suggested as biometric quality indicators for vasculature images.

Detonation interaction with an interface [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
Detonation interaction with an interface was investigated, where the interface separated a combustible from an oxidizing or inert mixture. The ethylene-oxygen combustible mixture had a fuel-rich composition to promote secondary combustion with the ...

An upstream open reading frame regulates expression of the mitochondrial protein Slm35 and mitophagy flux

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals how the mitochondrial protein Slm35 is regulated in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The authors identify stress‐responsive DNA elements and two upstream open reading frames (uORFs) in the 5′ untranslated region of SLM35. One uORF restricts translation, and its mutation increases Slm35 protein levels and mitophagy.
