Interband cascade lasers

Nature Photonics, 2015
We review the current status of interband cascade lasers (ICLs) emitting in the midwave infrared (IR). The ICL may be considered the hybrid of a conventional diode laser that generates photons via electron–hole recombination, and an intersubband-based quantum cascade laser (QCL) that stacks multiple stages for enhanced current efficiency.

Interband Cascade Lasers

Conference on Lasers and Electro-Optics, 2020
Recent advances in midwave infrared interband cascade lasers (ICLs) include novel distributed feedback configurations, vertical-cavity surface-emitting lasers, light-emitting devices, frequency combs, dual-comb spectroscopy, and ICLs incorporated into photonic integrated circuits on silicon and III-V platforms.

Interband cascade lasers

SPIE Proceedings, 2000
ABSTRACT We report the recent progress of interband cascade (IC) lasers based on JnAs/Ga(In)Sb/A1Sb type-Il quantum wells (QWs).For the 4.5-j.im IC lasers, the internal loss was 1 1.6 cm' and the internal quantum efficiency (IQE) was 460% at 90 K. Whenmounted epi-side down on diamond, cw operation was observed with an external quantum efficiency (EQE ...

Mid-infrared type-II interband cascade lasers

IEEE Journal of Quantum Electronics, 2000
We describe the progress made in the development of type-II interband cascade lasers emitting in the midinfrared (3.8–3.9 μm) spectral region. Three nominally similar molecular beam epitaxy growths on substrates from different vendors show qualitatively different electrical and optical properties.

InAs-Based Interband Cascade Lasers

IEEE Journal of Selected Topics in Quantum Electronics, 2019
We briefly review the features of interband cascade lasers (ICLs) and discuss rationales for using an InAs-based plasmon waveguide configuration for extending efficient operation of ICLs to long wavelengths. We then present our recent progress in InAs-based ICLs based on an advanced waveguide configuration.

Interband cascade laser progress

SPIE Proceedings, 2008
Recent advances in the development of mid-IR antimonide type-II "W" interband cascade lasers have led to a considerably improved high-temperature operation of the devices. We report an experimental investigation of four interband cascade lasers with wavelengths spanning the mid-infrared spectral range, i.e., 2.9-5.2 μm near room temperature in ...

Interband cascade lasers with long lifetimes

Applied Optics, 2015
Narrow-ridge interband cascade lasers were subjected to accelerated aging. The aging curves were statistically evaluated by a log-normal distribution of the failure time, and by the mixed effects of the degradation parameters. Based on 10,000 h of output power trend data for lasers operating at 90°C and the maximum cw power, an unexpectedly long ...

Ring Interband Cascade Lasers

Conference on Lasers and Electro-Optics, 2018
We present ring-shaped interband cascade lasers with light emission through the GaSb substrate. Measurements of the projected nearfields revealed a radial polarization, owing to the nature of the optical interband transitions.

Low threshold interband cascade lasers

SPIE Proceedings, 2013
Various semiconductor laser concepts have been researched during recent years to cover the mid-infrared (MIR) spectral range with robust, compact and reliable coherent sources operating at ambient temperatures. Among them, interband cascade lasers [1] (ICLs), which unite interband transitions with the concept of cascading active regions, have ...

Interband Cascade and Quantum Cascade Ring Lasers

Conference on Lasers and Electro-Optics, 2020
Quantum cascade and interband cascade lasers are fabricated into surface and substrate emitting coherent light sources and detectors. We report about latest achievements in terms of power, temperature and dynamic performance of on-chip sensing systems.
