Type-I Interband Cascade Lasers Near 3.2µm

CLEO: 2015, 2015
Interband cascade (IC) lasers have been demonstrated based on type-I InGaAsSb/AlAsSb quantum well (QW) active regions. These type-I IC lasers are composed of 6-cascade stages and InAs/AlSb superlattice cladding layers. In contrast to the use of quinary AlGaInAsSb barriers for active region in previous type-I QW lasers, the type-I QW active region in ...

Frequency noise of Interband Cascade Lasers

OSA High-brightness Sources and Light-driven Interactions Congress 2020 (EUVXRAY, HILAS, MICS), 2020
In the mid-infrared (3-6 µm), Interband Cascade Lasers are emerging sources due to their compactness and low-power consumption for high-precision spectroscopy. We investigated frequency noise and linewidth, and show preliminary results of their frequency stabilization.

Mid infrared interband cascade lasers for sensing applications

Applied Physics B, 2010
The growth of Interband Cascade Laser material to cover the wavelength range from 3–4 μm is presented along with the fabrication and characterization of Broad Area (BA) and Ridge Waveguide (RWG) devices based on this material. Pulsed operation slightly below room temperature is observed for both device types, and a strong reduction of threshold ...

Mid infrared DFB interband cascade lasers

Infrared Remote Sensing and Instrumentation XXV, 2017
The mid infrared spectral range (MIR) is of great interest for a variety of industrial, medical and environmental applications since numerous molecules have strong absorption lines therein. Interband cascade lasers (ICLs) have the ability to cover the entire MIR almost independently from the bandgap of the utilized semiconductors.

Interband cascade lasers with longer wavelengths

SPIE Proceedings, 2017
While much of the previous work on interband cascade lasers (ICLs) has been limited to the 3-4 μm spectral range, it was recently demonstrated at NRL and elsewhere that the low threshold current and power densities characteristic of ICLs can be extended to longer wavelengths.

Tunable External Cavity Interband Cascade Laser

LEOS 2007 - IEEE Lasers and Electro-Optics Society Annual Meeting Conference Proceedings, 2007
We present a study of the tunability of an external cavity interband cascade laser. This tunable mid-IR light source has a broad tuning range of 300 nm (208 cm-1) around 3.8 mum with a peak output power of 2 mW in the pulsed mode.

Interband cascade laser photon noise

Journal of Physics D: Applied Physics, 2008
We report measurements of the low-frequency photon noise and the relative intensity noise of an interband cascade laser as a function of laser current at 30 and 100 K. Away from threshold, the laser primarily exhibits a frequency-independent photon noise spectral density in agreement with theory. At threshold, the observed photon noise spectral density

Interband Cascade Lasers for gas sensing

2016 Progress in Electromagnetic Research Symposium (PIERS), 2016
The Interband Cascade Laser (ICL) [1, 2] combines the interband transition as in a conventional diode laser with the cascading scheme of a Quantum Cascade Laser. ICLs allow for an external quantum efficiency greater than which is enabled because of the special band alignment of GaInSb/AlAs/InAs-interfaces that separates hole and electron injector and ...

Interband cascade lasers: progress and outlook

SPIE Proceedings, 2004
Type-II Interband cascade lasers combine interband optical transitions with interband tunneling to enable the cascading of type-II quantum well active regions. This combination allows for low threshold current densities and high external slope efficiencies, both of which are important for high temperature, high power operation.

Methane Measurements with Interband Cascade Lasers

Biomedical Optics, 2008
An inter-band cascade (IC) laser is evaluated for applications to methane isotope ratio measurements. The laser tunes over spectral features of both carbon isotopes with high output power, single mode operation and good sensitivity.
