Numerical simulations predict that it will combine the advantages of low threshold currents, high operating temperatures, and high output powers at wavelengths from 2.5 /spl mu/m to 7 /spl mu/m.

Mid-IR Interband Cascade Lasers
MRS Proceedings, 2005ABSTRACTEfficient mid-IR interband cascade (IC) lasers have been developed based on III-V semiconductor materials with lasing emission covering a wavelength range from 2.7 to 5.6 microns. These IC lasers reuse injected electrons in cascade stages for photon generation with high quantum efficiency to achieve high output powers.

Vertically emitting ring interband cascade lasers
Novel In-Plane Semiconductor Lasers XX, 2021We have demonstrated that both ring quantum cascade (QCLs) and interband cascade lasers (ICLs) are excellent platforms for vertical light emission. Of these two lasers ICLs typically show lower power consumption and lasing threshold, qualifying them especially for miniaturized and battery-powered applications.
