Intercellular communication: Regulation of plasmodesmata

Current Biology
Intercellular channels called plasmodesmata regulate cell-cell communication in plants. A new study now reveals how the levels of phosphatidylinositol 4-phosphate and the interaction with MCTP proteins can control trafficking via plasmodesmata in plants.

Intercellular Communication in Embryos

1987
Where cells appose one another a number of membrane specializations can be found, one of the most interesting of which is the gap junction. Here, membranes come close together, reducing the intercellular space to 2–4 nm. Structures known as connexons lie in clusters within each membrane, uniting in pairs across the gap.
