The impact of HIV exposure and maternal Mycobacterium tuberculosis infection on infant immune responses to bacille Calmette-Guérin vaccination. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
OBJECTIVE: The objective of this study is to assess the effect of maternal HIV and Mycobacterium tuberculosis (Mtb) infection on cellular responses to bacille Calmette-Guérin (BCG) immunization. DESIGN: A mother-infant cohort study.

Bioengineered Pancreatic Cancer Immunosuppressive Microenvironment Models for Screening Immunotherapies

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Bioengineering tumor‐stroma pancreatic cancer models with potential to emulate the native immunosuppressive tumor microenvironment. Cancer‐on‐a‐bead models exhibited higher relevance for screening immunotherapies and modulating the protumoral PDAC microenvironment. ABSTRACT Pancreatic cancer is notably resistant to treatment, primarily due to its dense

Advances in Bioprinting to Model Immune‐Mediated Skin Diseases

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
This review explores how 3D bioprinting drives innovation in developing in vitro skin models that mimic immune‐mediated diseases. It highlights current technologies, key applications in studying skin pathologies, and emerging challenges. The review points toward future opportunities for improving disease modeling and advancing therapeutic and cosmetic ...

Immune Stimulation of Interferon-Gamma- and Biopterin Synthesis with Endotoxin in Animal-Experimental Peritonitis

open access: yesPteridines, 1993
As a result to a microhial stimulus different defence systems are activated. Bacterial lipopolysaccharids (endotoxins) can lead to activation of the immune system in which phagocytic cells like macrophages.

Prediction of the response of chronic hepatitis C to interferon alfa: a statistical analysis of pretreatment variables [PDF]

open access: yes, 1993
Pretreatment variables that could predict the response of chronic hepatitis C to interferon alfa treatment have not been fully assessed. Eighteen baseline variables were evaluated in a series of 100 consecutive patients treated with a 12 month course of ...

Redefining Therapies for Drug‐Resistant Tuberculosis: Synergistic Effects of Antimicrobial Peptides, Nanotechnology, and Computational Design

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Antimicrobial peptide (AMP)‐loaded nanocarriers provide a multifunctional strategy to combat drug‐resistant Mycobacterium tuberculosis. By enhancing intracellular delivery, bypassing efflux pumps, and disrupting bacterial membranes, this platform restores phagolysosome fusion and macrophage function.

Inhibiting tryptophan metabolism enhances interferon therapy in kidney cancer. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Renal cell carcinoma (RCC) is increasing in incidence, and a complete cure remains elusive. While immune-checkpoint antibodies are promising, interferon-based immunotherapy has been disappointing.

Mesenchymal Stem Cell‐Derived Apoptotic Micro‐Vesicles Repaired Sciatic Nerve Defect by Regulating Early Inflammatory Microenvironment and Promoting Angiogenesis

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
HUCMSC‐Apo‐mvs enhance peripheral nerve repair by modulating the inflammatory microenvironment (IME), primarily through coordinated actions on three functional cells. They recruit macrophages and promote their polarization from pro‐inflammatory M1 to anti‐inflammatory M2 phenotypes, increasing secretion of IL‐10 and VEGF.

Reciprocal expression of interferon gamma or interleukin 4 during the resolution or progression of murine leishmaniasis. Evidence for expansion of distinct helper T cell subsets

open access: yesJournal of Experimental Medicine, 1989
We purified poly(A)+ mRNA from the spleen and lymph nodes at designated times after infection with Leishmania major in genetically susceptible BALB/c and resistant C57BL/6 mice.

A 3D Astrocyte Microenvironment Model Enables Rapid Ca2+‐Resolved Analysis and Therapeutic Modulation of Oxidative Neuroinflammation

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
This work presents ARC‐3D, a soft 3D model that recreates how brain support cells, called astrocytes, react to oxidative stress. The system visualizes rapid calcium changes and inflammatory signals, and shows how the drug KDS12025 can protect cells from damage. ARC‐3D offers a simple, reliable way to study early drivers of brain inflammation.
