Metabolic Consequences of Rheumatoid Arthritis

open access: yesArthritis Care &Research, EarlyView.
Patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) may have metabolic disruption, which can contribute to adverse long‐term outcomes, for multiple reasons. Patients with RA appear to have a higher risk of sarcopenia, type 1 and type 2 diabetes mellitus, metabolic syndrome, and hypertension. Systemic inflammation in RA can cause a “lipid paradox,” with reduced low‐

Specific low frequency electromagnetic fields induce epigenetic and functional changes in U937 cells [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2018
In this study, we investigated the effects of specific low frequency electromagnetic fields sequences on U937 cells, an in vitro model of human monocyte/macrophage differentiation. U937 cells were exposed to electromagnetic stimulation by means of the SyntheXer system using two similar sequences, XR-BC31 and XR-BC31/F.

Interleukin-22 Promotes Intestinal Stem Cell-Mediated Epithelial Regeneration

open access: yesNature, 2015
Epithelial regeneration is critical for barrier maintenance and organ function after intestinal injury. The intestinal stem cell (ISC) niche provides Wnt, Notch and epidermal growth factor (EGF) signals supporting Lgr5+ crypt base columnar ISCs for ...

Time‐Controlled Dual Targeting to Program Systemic and Intercellular Transfer of Therapeutic Effects

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Aspirin‐liposomes loaded onto monocytes enable inflammation‐triggered targeting and efficient hand‐over of aspirin to inflamed cells. Monocytes uptake a significant portion of aspirin‐liposomes, prolonging therapeutic action. This approach enhances anti‐inflammatory effects through intercellular transfer, demonstrating a translational strategy for ...

A reaction-diffusion model for relapsing-remitting multiple sclerosis with a treatment term [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv
We present a mathematical study for the development of multiple sclerosis based on a reaction-diffusion system. The model describes interactions among different populations of human cells, motion of immune cells stimulated by cytokines, consumption of myelin sheath due to anomalously activated lymphocytes and its restoration by oligodendrocytes ...

Personalized Mathematical Model Predicting Endotoxin-Induced Inflammatory Responses in Young Men [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2016
The initial reaction of the body to pathogenic microbial infection or severe tissue trauma is an acute inflammatory response. The magnitude of such a response is of critical importance, since an uncontrolled response can cause further tissue damage, sepsis, and ultimately death, while an insufficient response can result in inadequate clearance of ...

Multifunctional Hydroxyapatite Coated with Gallium Liquid Metal‐Based Silver Nanoparticles for Infection Prevention and Bone Regeneration

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A multifunctional hydroxyapatite (HAp) coating integrated with silver‐gallium liquid metal nanoparticles (HAp‐Ag‐GaNPs) exhibits dual antibacterial and osteogenic properties. It effectively inhibits Gram‐positive and Gram‐negative bacteria, including resistant strains, while enhancing bone regeneration.
