Colored fused filament fabrication

open access: yes, 2019
Fused filament fabrication is the method of choice for printing 3D models at low cost and is the de-facto standard for hobbyists, makers, and schools. Unfortunately, filament printers cannot truly reproduce colored objects.

Interaction of HS1BP3 with cortactin modulates TKS5 localisation, cell secretion and cancer malignancy

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Here, we demonstrate that HS1BP3 interacts with Cortactin through a proline‐rich region (PRR3.1) and show that this interaction, and HS1BP3 itself, promote cancer cell proliferation and invasion. Inhibition of this interaction leads to build‐up of TKS5 in multivesicular endosomes and altered secretion of CD63 and CD9, providing an explanation for the ...

Re-expression of the intermediate filament nestin in reactive astrocytes

open access: yesNeurobiology of Disease, 1995
The intermediate filament nestin is highly expressed in multipotential stem cells of the developing central nervous system (CNS). During neuro- and gliogenesis, nestin is replaced by cell type-specific intermediate filaments, e.g.

Active Microrheology of Networks Composed of Semiflexible Polymers. II. Theory and comparison with simulations

open access: yes, 2005
Building on the results of our computer simulation (ArXiv cond-mat/0503573)we develop a theoretical description of the motion of a bead, embedded in a network of semiflexible polymers, and responding to an applied force.

Intrinsic structural disorder in cytoskeletal proteins. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Cytoskeleton, the internal scaffold of the cell, displays an exceptional combination of stability and dynamics. It is composed of three major filamentous networks, microfilaments (actin filaments), intermediate filaments (neurofilaments), and ...

Matrix metalloproteinase‐9 regulates cell adhesion and membrane protrusive activity of ovarian cancer cells

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Matrix metalloproteinase‐9 (MMP9) drives ovarian cancer progression. Using MMP9‐null cells (M9‐KO) created from ovarian cancer cells, we found MMP9 loss did not block Epidermal Growth Factor (EGF)‐driven E‐cadherin dissolution or EMT but delayed and reduced EGF‐driven membrane protrusions. Transient MMP9 re‐expression drove membrane protrusion.

Keratin 9 L164P mutation in a Chinese pedigree with epidermolytic palmoplantar keratoderma, cytokeratin analysis, and literature review

open access: yesMolecular Genetics & Genomic Medicine, 2019
Background Epidermolytic palmoplantar keratoderma (EPPK) is characterized by hyperkeratotic lesions on palms and soles. The disorder is caused by mutations of keratin 9 (KRT9) or KRT1 gene.

Withaferin a alters intermediate filament organization, cell shape and behavior. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2012
Withaferin A (WFA) is a steroidal lactone present in Withania somnifera which has been shown in vitro to bind to the intermediate filament protein, vimentin. Based upon its affinity for vimentin, it has been proposed that WFA can be used as an anti-tumor

Nestin Modulates Airway Smooth Muscle Cell Migration by Affecting Spatial Rearrangement of Vimentin Network and Focal Adhesion Assembly

open access: yesCells, 2022
Airway smooth muscle cell migration plays a role in the progression of airway remodeling, a hallmark of allergic asthma. However, the mechanisms that regulate cell migration are not yet entirely understood.

The Influence of Large-Scale Structure on Halo Shapes and Alignments [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
Alignments of galaxy clusters (the Binggeli effect), as well as of galaxies themselves have long been studied both observationally and theoretically. Here we test the influence of large-scales structures and tidal fields on the shapes and alignments of ...
