Molecular characterization of Dirofilaria spp. circulating in Portugal

open access: yesParasites & Vectors, 2017
Background Dirofilariosis is a potentially zoonotic parasitic disease, mainly transmitted by mosquito vectors in many parts of the world. Data concerning the canine Dirofilaria species currently circulating in Portugal is scarce.

Isolation and Identification of fungi associated with diseased freshwater fishes in Terengganu, Malaysia [PDF]

open access: yesSongklanakarin Journal of Science and Technology (SJST), 2021
Fish health problem presents an ongoing challenge for aquaculture as disease outbreaks cause fish mortalities and financial losses. This study investigated the fungal infections in common freshwater ornamental and food fish species in Terengganu ...

Restriction site patterns in the ribosomal DNA of Camelidae [PDF]

open access: yes, 1994
The restriction map of rDNA from South American camelids and the Bactrian camel was analyzed by digestion of high-molecular-weight DNA with endonucleases EcoRI, BamHI and the two combined followed by Southern blot hybridization with probes for the 18S ...

Sequence Analysis of the Internal Transcribed Spacer of Ribosomal DNA in the GenusRhizopus [PDF]

open access: yesMycobiology, 2005
The internal transcribed spacer (ITS) regions including the 3'-end of 18S rRNA gene, 5.8S rRNA gene and the 5'-end of the 28S rRNA gene of Rhizopus spp. were amplified by PCR and analyzed by DNASIS program. Length polymorphism of these region ranged from 564 bp in R. oryzae to 789bp in R. stolonifer.

Species-specific identification and detection of Phytophthora pistaciae, the causal agent of pistachio gummosis

open access: yesPhytopathologia Mediterranea, 2012
Gummosis is the most important disease of pistachio trees in Iranian orchards. The principal cause, Phytophthora pistaciae, is a recently described plant pathogenic oomycete from pistachio trees. This species is very similar, probably due to convergence,

Intragenomic Variation and Evolution of the Internal Transcribed Spacer of the rRNA Operon in Bacteria [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Molecular Evolution, 2007
Variation in the internal transcribed spacer (ITS) of the rRNA (rrn) operon is increasingly used to infer population-level diversity in bacterial communities. However, intragenomic ITS variation may skew diversity estimates that do not correct for multiple rrn operons within a genome.

A Multiplex-PCR approach to identification of the Brazilian intermediate hosts of Schistosoma mansoni

open access: yesMemorias do Instituto Oswaldo Cruz, 2002
Due to difficulties concerning morphological identification of planorbid snails of the genus Biomphalaria, and given a high variation of characters and in the organs with muscular tissue, we designed specific polymerase chain reaction (PCR) primers for ...

A case of Beauveria bassiana keratitis confirmed by internal transcribed spacer and LSU rDNA D1–D2 sequencing

open access: yesNew Microbes and New Infections, EarlyView., 2014
Abstract We describe a case of fungal keratitis due to Beauveria bassiana in a farmer with Fuchs' dystrophy, treated with amphotericin B. Surgery with penetrating keratoplasty was necessary to resolve the lesions. Susceptibility testing and molecular sequencing permitted the identification and treatment of this rare aetiological agent of invasive ...

Early‐onset Alzheimer's disease shows a distinct neuropsychological profile and more aggressive trajectories of cognitive decline than late‐onset

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, Volume 9, Issue 12, Page 1962-1973, December 2022., 2022
Abstract Objectives Early‐ and late‐onset Alzheimer's disease (EOAD and LOAD) share the same neuropathological traits but show distinct cognitive features. We aimed to explore baseline and longitudinal outcomes of global and domain‐specific cognitive function in a well characterized cohort of patients with a biomarker‐based diagnosis.
