UiO‐66 metal–organic frameworks in biomedicine: From structural tunability to bioimaging, photodiagnostics, and photodynamic cancer therapy

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
UiO‐66(Zr) metal–organic frameworks are chemically stable, biocompatible, and highly tunable nanomaterials. Their modular structure enables controlled drug delivery, multimodal bioimaging, and light‐activated photodynamic therapy, supporting integrated diagnostic and therapeutic (theranostic) applications in cancer and biomedical research.

LTβR-RelB signaling in intestinal epithelial cells protects from chemotherapy-induced mucosal damage

open access: yesFrontiers in Immunology
The intricate immune mechanisms governing mucosal healing following intestinal damage induced by cytotoxic drugs remain poorly understood. The goal of this study was to investigate the role of lymphotoxin beta receptor (LTβR) signaling in chemotherapy ...

Transcriptional regulation and impact of ABC-transporters in intestinal cell lines [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
The intestine has an important role in facilitating and limiting absorption of drugs. Since the intestine forms a barrier to the external, epithelial cells have several properties to protect the body from microorganisms and toxins, and to control uptake ...

Aquaporin‐3 and aquaporin‐5 impact the development of pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma spheroids

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Schematic representation of the role of aquaporin‐3 (AQP3) and aquaporin‐5 (AQP5) in pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC). Both proteins are upregulated in PDAC and are associated with tumor progression and metastatic potential. Silencing AQP3 or AQP5 in PDAC spheroids results in decreased diameter, area, and overall growth, underscoring their key ...

Analysis of Interleukin 8 Secretion by a Stem-Cell-Derived Human-Intestinal-Epithelial-Monolayer Platform

open access: yes, 2018
In vitro models of the human intestinal epithelium derived from primary stem cells are much needed for the study of intestinal immunology in health and disease. Here, we describe an intestinal monolayer cultured on a porous membrane with accessible basal

Effect of green tea extract on expression of proteins involved in drug transport and metabolism and on the expression and secretion of the chemokine interleukin-8 in intestinal cell lines [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
Pharmacokinetic interactions often occur as a result of changes in the functional expression of drug-metabolising and transporting proteins. In recent years, interactions of herbal medicines with synthetic drugs have come into focus and drug-interactions

From energy provision to protein synthesis: Tunnelling nanotubes as mediators of intercellular metabolic cooperation in cancer

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
The cytoskeleton‐mediated transport of mitochondria via tunnelling nanotubes restores respiration, increases ATP production, rescues cells from apoptosis, activates the AKT/mTOR signalling pathway, promotes cell migration and invasiveness, contributes to cancer progression and treatment resistance.

Sirtuin-6 Preserves R-spondin-1 Expression and increases Resistance of intestinal Epithelium to injury in Mice

open access: yesMolecular Medicine, 2017
Sirtuin-6 (Sirt6) is a critical epigenetic regulator, but its function in the gut is unknown. Here, we studied the role of intestinal epithelial Sirt6 in colitis-associated intestinal epithelial injury.

Helicobacter pylori-induced histone modification, associated gene expression in gastric epithelial cells, and its implication in pathogenesis. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Histone modifications are critical in regulating gene expression, cell cycle, cell proliferation, and development. Relatively few studies have investigated whether Helicobacter pylori, the major cause of human gastric diseases, affects histone ...
