Age Is an Effect Modifier of Thrombectomy Benefit in a Socioeconomically Vulnerable Stroke Population

open access: yesAnnals of Neurology, Volume 100, Issue 3, Page 644-652, September 2026.
Objective Randomized trials from high‐income countries have shown that endovascular treatment (EVT) yields similar benefits in elderly and non‐elderly patients with large vessel occlusion stroke (LVOS). However, evidence from low/middle‐income countries remains scarce.

Predictive Value of FT3/FT4 and Neutrophil‐to‐Lymphocyte Ratios for Post‐Ischemic Stroke Urinary Tract Infection and Their Association With Longitudinal Functional Recovery Trajectories: A Retrospective Cohort Study

open access: yesBrain and Behavior, Volume 16, Issue 8, August 2026.
This graphical abstract illustrates how acute ischemic stroke may be accompanied by neuroendocrine‐immune dysregulation, represented by a low FT3/FT4 ratio and a high neutrophil‐to‐lymphocyte ratio, which together improve early identification of patients at risk for post‐ischemic stroke urinary tract infection.

Intravenous thrombolysis for ischaemic strokes: a call for reappraisal [PDF]

open access: yesBrain, 2014
Sir, Balami et al. (2013) state that intravenous tissue plasminogen activator thrombolysis is beneficial for the treatment of acute ischaemic stroke and that strokes are now a treatable medical emergency. A critical analysis of the data, however, raises doubts about the expansive claims of efficacy made by them and others (Wardlaw et al. , 2012).

Intravenous Thrombolysis Combined With Endovascular Treatment Versus Endovascular Treatment Alone in Acute Ischemic Stroke due to Tandem Lesions: A Systematic Review and Meta‐Analysis

open access: yesBrain and Behavior, Volume 16, Issue 8, August 2026.
Our systematic review and meta‐analysis evaluate whether intravenous thrombolysis (IVT) plus endovascular therapy (EVT) outperforms EVT alone in patients with acute ischemic stroke due to tandem lesions. Pooled data from nine studies involving 1756 patients demonstrate that IVT + EVT is associated with significantly higher rates of functional ...

Effect of Prehospital Time on Door‐to‐Computed Tomography Time in Acute Ischemic Stroke: A Multicenter Study

open access: yesBrain and Behavior, Volume 16, Issue 8, August 2026.
ABSTRACT Objectives Timely brain imaging is critical for optimizing stroke treatment outcomes. Delays at the prehospital stage significantly impact acute ischemic stroke management. Computed tomography (CT) plays a vital role in guiding treatment decisions.

Bridging Therapy Versus Intravenous Thrombolysis Alone in Patients With Medium Vessel Occlusion Stroke: A Single‐Center Cohort Study

open access: yesBrain and Behavior, Volume 16, Issue 8, August 2026.
ABSTRACT Background To compare the outcomes of bridging therapy versus intravenous thrombolysis (IVT) alone in patients with medium vessel occlusion (MeVO). Methods Consecutive MeVO patients between January 2019 and December 2024 were retrospectively included and classified into IVT alone or bridging therapy groups.

Downregulation of Lgals3 Alleviates Inflammatory Response and Apoptosis in a Mouse Model of Cerebral Ischemia/Reperfusion Injury

open access: yesBrain and Behavior, Volume 16, Issue 8, August 2026.
Mechanistic study of Lgals3 gene exacerbating cerebral ischemia‐reperfusion injury via the TLR4/MyD88/NF‐κB pathway. ABSTRACT Purpose The present work investigated the expression and function of Lgals3 in cerebral ischemia/reperfusion (cerebral IR) injury.

Factors Associated With Prehospital Delay Among Older Adults Surviving Ischemic Stroke: A Cross‐Sectional Study

open access: yesBrain and Behavior, Volume 16, Issue 8, August 2026.
ABSTRACT Background Ischemic stroke is a major public health concern and a leading cause of disability among older adults. Because treatment effectiveness is highly time‐dependent, timely medical intervention is crucial for improving outcomes, while delays in hospital arrival often result in poorer recovery and higher mortality.

Unveiling the Microvasculature: The Index of Microcirculatory Resistance and Its Expanding Role in Cardiovascular Care

open access: yesCatheterization and Cardiovascular Interventions, Volume 108, Issue 2, Page 287-300, August 1, 2026.
ABSTRACT Index of microcirculatory resistance (IMR) is a cutting‐edge, wire‐based tool that advances the capability assessment of coronary microvascular function. By utilizing distal coronary pressure and mean transit time under maximal hyperemia, IMR delivers consistent, reproducible insights into the microvasculature's dynamic health.
