A unifying model that explains the origins of human inverted copy number variants.

open access: yesPLoS Genetics
With the release of the telomere-to-telomere human genome sequence and the availability of both long-read sequencing and optical genome mapping techniques, the identification of copy number variants (CNVs) and other structural variants is providing new ...

Crystal structure of undecaprenyl-pyrophosphate phosphatase and its role in peptidoglycan biosynthesis

open access: yesNature Communications, 2018
Bacterial cell wall components are assembled in a transmembrane cycle that involves the membrane integral pyrophosphorylase, BacA. Here the authors solve the crystal structure of BacA which shows an interdigitated inverted topology repeat that hints ...

Engineering the Link: From Genome Interaction Maps to Functional Insight

open access: yesAdvanced Biology, EarlyView.
Advances in chromosome conformation capture have revealed the genome's 3D organization, yet its causal impact on gene regulation remains elusive. This review highlights emerging genome‐engineering tools ‐ zinc fingers, TALEs, and CRISPR‐Cas9 ‐ that enable targeted manipulation of chromatin loops to dissect structure–function relationships. It discusses

Fabrication‐Directed Entanglement for Designing Chiral and Anisotropic Metamaterial Foams

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This work introduces fabrication‐directed entanglement (FDE), combining viscous thread printing and topology optimization to program entangled foams with spatially patterned stiffness. By tuning coil density, FDE enables anisotropy, programmable Poisson's ratio, and chirality in foams.
