Descriptors to Dynamics: A Materials and Device Perspective on in‐Materio Physical Reservoir Computing for Neuromorphic Edge Intelligence

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Intrinsic material dynamics are harnessed as computational resources for neuromorphic in‐materio physical reservoir computing. Defects, ionic motion, interfaces, percolation, geometry, and biasing shape transient states that provide fading memory, nonlinearity, and high‐dimensional projection for simple readout. A descriptor‐to‐dynamics framework links

Spring-like mechanics enable rapid inactivation and stochastic single-channel gating of the mechanically activated PIEZO channel

open access: yesCell Reports
Summary: PIEZO ion channels generate force-induced macroscopic currents that rapidly inactivate but display repetitive single-channel opening and closing under steady membrane tension.

Poly(Alkoxythiophene) Rod‐Coil Block Copolymers for Organic Electrochemical Transistors

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
We present the first synthesis of poly(3‐alkoxythiophene) rod‐coil block copolymers as a new architecture for OMIECs. Incorporating PEG and PLLA coils can enhance device performance beyond the homopolymer. The figure‐of‐merit depends uniquely on coil length.

Viroporins beyond pathogenesis: Ion channel properties as the key to unlocking a neglected antiviral target

open access: yesPharmacological Research
A class of proteins encoded by viral genomes, referred to as viroporins, is composed of small hydrophobic proteins that form pores or ion channels in host membranes. These proteins modulate the viral life cycle and pathogenicity.

Lithography‐Compatible Conductive Metal–Organic Frameworks for Scalable Electronics

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Conductive MOF thin films are integrated as gate electrodes in semiconductor devices through a photolithography‐compatible patterning strategy. CVD‐grown 2D MOF thin films enable stable operation across bottom‐gate MoS2/MoTe2 field‐effect transistors and top‐gate IGZO arrays, highlighting the potential of conductive MOFs as functional electronic ...

Water, Protons, and the Gating of Voltage-Gated Potassium Channels

open access: yesMembranes
Ion channels are ubiquitous throughout all forms of life. Potassium channels are even found in viruses. Every cell must communicate with its surroundings, so all cells have them, and excitable cells, in particular, especially nerve cells, depend on the ...

Bioinspired Mechanosensitive Organic Artificial Neuron With Programmable Excitatory and Inhibitory Responses via Nonlinear Mechano‐Electrochemical Coupling

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Organic artificial neurons couple mechanical deformation and ionic environments through nonlinear mechano‐electrochemical dynamics. Mechanical strain and electrolyte concentration reshape their nonlinear electrical characteristics, programming excitatory or inhibitory spiking responses that mimic mechanosensitive biological neurons and enable ...

Energetics of rotational gating mechanisms of an ion channel induced by membrane deformation

open access: yes, 2017
We consider the gating mechanisms of an ion channel which has a conical structure for a closed state and a cylindrical or a bottleneck structure for an open state depending on the gating mechanisms. Applying the simplified continuum model of the membrane

Ionic Gating of Liquid‐Crystal‐Like Pteridine Assemblies Enables Tunable Light Scattering

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Tunable optical properties emerge through developmentally regulated ionic gating, which transforms disordered, ultraviolet (UV)‐absorbing organelles into concentrically ordered, liquid‐crystal‐like light scatterers. By integrating analyses of pteridine composition, potassium‐dependent assembly, hierarchical ultrastructure, and optical behavior, the ...

Parity‐Dependent THz Harmonic Generation in Electrically Pumped Micro‐Lasers Exploiting Topological Insulator–Metamaterial Gratings

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Topological insulator–metamaterials integrated with electrically driven terahertz quantum cascade lasers enable parity‐dependent harmonic generation. Bulk‐dominated Bi2Se3 favors third‐harmonic emission at 9.96 THz, whereas topological‐surface‐state‐dominated Bi2Se3, Bi2Te3, and (Bi,Sb)2Te3 generate strong second harmonics near 6.5 THz.
