Ferroptosis-modulating small molecules for targeting drug-resistant cancer: Challenges and opportunities in manipulating redox signaling. [PDF]

open access: yesMed Res Rev, 2023
Abstract Ferroptosis is an iron‐dependent cell death program that is characterized by excessive lipid peroxidation. Triggering ferroptosis has been proposed as a promising strategy to fight cancer and overcome drug resistance in antitumor therapy. Understanding the molecular interactions and structural features of ferroptosis‐inducing compounds might ...

Mikromolare Affinität und höher: synthetische Wirt‐Gast‐Komplexe mit hoher Stabilität

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, Volume 135, Issue 28, July 10, 2023., 2023

Single‐cell analyses reveal phosphate availability as critical factor for nutrition of Salmonella enterica within mammalian host cells

open access: yesCellular Microbiology, Volume 23, Issue 10, October 2021., 2021
Salmonella strains were engineered to report, on level of single intracellular bacteria, their intracellular niche and the availability of inorganic phosphate (Pi). In the Salmonella‐containing vacuole (SCV), Pi is limited and limitation increases with bacterial proliferation.

Antiprotozoische Struktur‐Aktivitäts‐Beziehungen von synthetischen Leucinostatin‐Derivaten und Aufklärung ihres Wirkprinzips

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, Volume 133, Issue 28, Page 15741-15749, July 5, 2021., 2021

Impact of wines and wine constituents on cyclooxygenase-1, cyclooxygenase-2, and 5-lipoxygenase catalytic activity. [PDF]

open access: yesMediators Inflamm, 2014
Cyclooxygenases and lipoxygenases are proinflammatory enzymes; the former affects platelet aggregation, vasoconstriction, vasodilatation and later the development of atherosclerosis. Red wines from Georgia and central and western Europe inhibited cyclooxygenase‐1 (COX‐1) activity in the range of 63–94%, cyclooxygenase‐2 (COX‐2) activity in the range of

A Na+ A1AO ATP synthase with a V‐type c subunit in a mesophilic bacterium

open access: yesThe FEBS Journal, Volume 287, Issue 14, Page 3012-3023, July 2020., 2020
In this study, the A1AO ATP synthase with a V‐type c subunit from the mesophilic acetogen Eubacterium limosum was purified. After incorporation of the enzyme into liposomes, ATP‐dependent primary transport of 22Na+ could be demonstrated. The ATP synthase from E. limosum is the first with a V‐type c subunit from a mesophilic organism.

How Sleep Activates Epileptic Networks?

open access: yesEpilepsy Research and Treatment, Volume 2013, Issue 1, 2013., 2013
Background. The relationship between sleep and epilepsy has been long ago studied, and several excellent reviews are available. However, recent development in sleep research, the network concept in epilepsy, and the recognition of high frequency oscillations in epilepsy and more new results may put this matter in a new light. Aim.

Salinomycin as a Drug for Targeting Human Cancer Stem Cells

open access: yesBioMed Research International, Volume 2012, Issue 1, 2012., 2012
Cancer stem cells (CSCs) represent a subpopulation of tumor cells that possess self‐renewal and tumor initiation capacity and the ability to give rise to the heterogenous lineages of malignant cells that comprise a tumor. CSCs possess multiple intrinsic mechanisms of resistance to chemotherapeutic drugs, novel tumor‐targeted drugs, and radiation ...

Selective Transport of Silver(I) Ion Through Polymer Membranes Containing Thioether Donor Macrocycles as Carriers

open access: yesJournal of Chemistry, Volume 5, Issue 2, Page 271-274, 2008., 2008
The Preparation of polymer membrane and it′s selectivity to silver(I) ion from an aqueous solution containing seven metal cations, Co(II), Ni(II), Cu(II), Zn(II), Ag(I), Cd(II) and Pb(II), was studied. The source phase contained equimolar concentrations of the above mentioned cations with the source and receiving phases being buffered at pH 5.0 and 3.0
