Specific post-translational modifications of soluble tau protein distinguishes Alzheimer’s disease and primary tauopathies

open access: yesNature Communications, 2023
Tau protein aggregates in several neurodegenerative disorders, referred to as tauopathies. The tau isoforms observed in post mortem human brain aggregates is used to classify tauopathies.

Stereotactic Body Radiation Therapy for Pediatric, Adolescent, and Young Adult Patients With Osteosarcoma: Local Control Outcomes With Dosimetric Analysis

open access: yesPediatric Blood &Cancer, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background/Objectives Osteosarcoma is a radioresistant tumor that may benefit from stereotactic body radiation therapy (SBRT) for locoregional control in metastatic/recurrent disease. We report institutional practice patterns, outcomes, toxicity, and failures in osteosarcoma patients treated with SBRT.

Senescence-related impairment of autophagy induces toxic intraneuronal amyloid-β accumulation in a mouse model of amyloid pathology

open access: yesActa Neuropathologica Communications, 2023
Aging is the main risk factor for Alzheimer’s disease (AD) and other neurodegenerative pathologies, but the molecular and cellular changes underlying pathological aging of the nervous system are poorly understood. AD pathology seems to correlate with the

Variability of the Chemical Composition of the Atmospheric Aerosol in the Coastal Zone of the Southern Basin of Lake Baikal (East Siberia, Russia)

open access: yesAtmosphere, 2022
The role of the atmosphere in the formation of the chemical composition and quality of water in Lake Baikal and its tributaries has been increasing in recent years. In this regard, studies of the chemical composition of the constituents of the atmosphere

Mapping the evolution of mitochondrial complex I through structural variation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Respiratory complex I (CI) is crucial for bioenergetic metabolism in many prokaryotes and eukaryotes. It is composed of a conserved set of core subunits and additional accessory subunits that vary depending on the organism. Here, we categorize CI subunits from available structures to map the evolution of CI across eukaryotes. Respiratory complex I (CI)

Photosynthesis under far‐red light—evolutionary adaptations and bioengineering of light‐harvesting complexes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Phototrophs evolved light‐harvesting systems adapted for efficient photon capture in habitats enriched in far‐red radiation. A subset of eukaryotic pigment‐binding proteins can absorb far‐red photons via low‐energy chlorophyll states known as red forms.

Telomere-driven senescence accelerates tau pathology, neuroinflammation and neurodegeneration in a tauopathy mouse model

open access: yesActa Neuropathologica Communications
The connection between aging and neurodegenerative pathologies like Alzheimer’s disease (AD) has long been recognized, with senescent brain cells building up in the brains of AD patients.

Orange Sm:LiYF4 lasers emitting at 605 nm [PDF]

open access: yesEPJ Web of Conferences
We report on polarized spectroscopy and orange laser operation under 2ω-OPSL and GaN-diode pumping of Sm:LiYF4 crystals. The Samarium laser delivers 12 mW at 605 nm with a threshold of 51 mW and a linear polarization.

Spatiotemporal and quantitative analyses of phosphoinositides – fluorescent probe—and mass spectrometry‐based approaches

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Fluorescent probes allow dynamic visualization of phosphoinositides in living cells (left), whereas mass spectrometry provides high‐sensitivity, isomer‐resolved quantitation (right). Their synergistic use captures complementary aspects of lipid signaling. This review illustrates how these approaches reveal the spatiotemporal regulation and quantitative

Gazing into spatiotemporal ‘known unknowns’: the influence of uncertainty on pupil size and saccadic eye movements

open access: yesScientific Reports
Expectation of a future stimulus increases the preparedness to act once it actually appears and results in reduced latency of the appropriate motor response.
