Metabolomic profiles of induced pluripotent stem cells derived from patients with rheumatoid arthritis and osteoarthritis

open access: yesStem Cell Research & Therapy, 2019
Background Metabolomics is the systemic study of the unique fingerprints of metabolites involved in cellular processes and biochemical reactions. The metabolomic approach is useful in diagnosing and predicting the development of rheumatoid arthritis (RA)

Bioprinting High‐Cell‐Density Cardiac Tissue Constructs With Sustained Contractile Function

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Contractile cardiomyocytes in 3D culture provide insights into the behavior of the heart. Combining a 3D bioprinting approach with a multi‐electrode array allows the development of the 3D culture to be monitored over time, and matured cultures allow the effect of drugs on cardiac function to be modelled, replicating effects seen in clinical application.

iPSC Differentiation

open access: yes, 2023
Differentiation is the process where an unspecialized cell acquires cellular traits that allow it to perform specialized functions. Indeed, the actual potential of iPSCs rest in their direct differentiation to various types of somatic cells. In order to use iPSCs to treat disease or as research tools to study diseases, fully functioning specialized ...

iPSCs are safe!

open access: yesCell & Bioscience, 2017
Induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) hold great promises in cell therapy. However, the potential safety issues have dampened the enthusiasm of their clinical development. One of the biggest concerns came from the observations that genomic alterations exist in iPSCs.

Patient‐Derived 3D Heart‐On‐a‐Chip Model of Dilated Cardiomyopathy With Embedded Bead‐Based Mapping of Tissue Contractility

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
A heart‐on‐a‐chip model of dilated cardiomyopathy is developed from patient‐derived induced pluripotent stem cells. The model recapitulates key disease phenotypes and enables functional assessment through integrated bead‐based tracking and pillar deflection measurements.

A Fully Defined GelMA‐Based Matrix Allows Fine Tuning of Tissue‐Relevant Biomechanical and Biochemical Cues for Organoid Culture

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
A fully defined GelMA‐based ECM platform integrates tunable tissue‐relevant stiffness with laminin–entactin biochemical supplementation to support mouse small intestinal organoid growth. Coordinated control of mechanical and biochemical cues promotes robust proliferation, budding morphogenesis, differentiation, and passaging, providing a reproducible ...

Generation of an induced pluripotent stem cell (iPSC) line from a patient with maturity-onset diabetes of the young type 13 (MODY13) with a the potassium inwardly-rectifying channel, subfamily J, member 11 (KCNJ11) mutation

open access: yesStem Cell Research, 2017
Heterozygous activating mutation (p.Glu227Lys) in KCNJ11 leads to maturity-onset diabetes of the young (MODY) type 13, that is a subtype of dominant inherited young-onset non-autoimmune diabetes due to a primary defect in pancreatic beta cells.

Roadblocks in the Path of iPSC to the Clinic [PDF]

open access: yesCurrent Transplantation Reports, 2018
The goal of this paper is to highlight the major challenges in the translation of human pluripotent stem cells into a clinical setting.Innate features from human induced pluripotent stem cells (hiPSCs) positioned these patient-specific cells as an unprecedented cell source for regenerative medicine applications.

Vascularization of Human iPSC‐Derived Kidney Organoids Using Perfusion Culture, Pre‐Vascularized Collagen Scaffolds, and Decellularized Extracellular Matrix

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
An integrated perfusion‐based culture platform combining pre‐vascularized collagen scaffolds, stromal vascular fraction cells, and kidney decellularized extracellular matrix promotes vascularization of human iPSC‐derived kidney organoids. The platform provides evidence of interactions between vascular networks and glomerular‐like structures and enables
