New Perspectives on the Impact of Iron Chelation Therapy on the Gut Microbiome in Thalassemia Patients

open access: yesThalassemia Reports
Thalassemia, a genetic condition characterized by defective hemoglobin synthesis, is often managed with transfusion therapy, which can lead to iron overload—a significant contributor to morbidity and mortality due to organ damage and pathogenic ...

Astrocytic PCBP1 Suppresses Ferroptosis to Restore Glutamatergic Homeostasis and Mitigate Stress‐Induced Depression in Male Mice

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study demonstrates that polyC‐RNA‐binding protein 1 (PCBP1) in ventral hippocampal astrocytes modulates depressive‐like behaviors by regulating glutathione peroxidase 4‐mediated ferroptosis and synaptic glutamatergic transmission. PCBP1 overexpression intervention in the chronic unpredictable mild stress model rescues behavioral deficits ...

Unveiling Extramedullary Hematopoiesis: A Case Report Highlighting the Causes, Symptoms, and Management Strategies

open access: yesThalassemia Reports
Extramedullary hematopoiesis (EMH) serves as a compensatory mechanism in chronic hemolytic anemias, such as thalassemia, and can result in spinal cord compression.

Phyto‐Confined CeOx with Synergistic Lattice Distortion and Oxygen Vacancies Drives Efficient Urea Electrosynthesis

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Lattice‐distorted CeOx nanoparticles with abundant oxygen vacancies, confined in porous carbon (d‐CeOx/PC), enable efficient electrocatalytic urea synthesis from CO2 and NO3−. Contracted Ce─O bonds (≈2.29 Å) stabilize OV, creating electron reservoirs for flexible multi‐electron transfer.

Principles for Rigorous Design and Application of Synthetic Microbial Communities

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
SynComs are artificially designed to enable inter‐species metabolic interactions, metabolic division of labor, and ecological interactions that can elicit phenotypes like colonization stability and environmental adaptation. This systematic review explores the processes used to construct SynComs, the assessment of the mechanisms of metabolic interaction
