Coagulative Granular Hydrogels with an Enzyme Catalyzed Fibrin Network for Endogenous Tissue Regeneration

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Coagulative granular hydrogels are composed of packed thrombin‐functionalized microgels that catalyze the conversion of fibrinogen into a secondary fibrin network, filling the interstitial voids. This bio‐inspired approach stabilizes the biomaterial to match the robustness of bulk hydrogels without compromising injectability, mimicking the initial ...

The Floor‐Ceiling‐Chip, or 2 × 2D = Pseudo‐3D—Approaching 3D Cell Morphology and Organization between Two Opposing 2D Substrates with Cell‐Adhesive Protein Micropatterns

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Here, we present a novel 3D cell patterning and culture platform. The “Floor‐Ceiling‐Chip” (FC‐Chip) consists of two opposing track‐etched membranes, creating a pseudo‐3D microenvironment for the cells in between. By providing the membranes with micropatterned cell‐adhesive islands of varying geometries and sizes, the FC‐Chip enables control over cell ...

Acute kidney injury and iron metabolism: A narrative review focusing on pathophysiology and therapy

open access: yesSmart Molecules
Acute kidney injury (AKI) represents a substantial challenge to public health and is characterized by elevated occurrence and fatality rates. In the last 3 decades, the disruption of iron homeostasis and the cytotoxic effects mediated by iron have been ...

Integrating multi-omics techniques and in vitro experiments reveals that GLRX3 regulates the immune microenvironment and promotes hepatocellular carcinoma cell proliferation and invasion through iron metabolism pathways

open access: yesFrontiers in Immunology
BackgroundHepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is a common malignancy worldwide, and its development is closely related to abnormalities in iron metabolism. This study aims to systematically analyze changes in iron metabolism in the tumor microenvironment of ...

Targeting the ARRDC3–DRP1 Axis via hUMSC‐Derived Exosomal CRYAB for Neuroprotection in Cerebral Ischemia/Reperfusion Injury

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Intranasally administered hUMSC‐derived exosomes modulate the CRYAB–ARRDC3–Drp1 axis, alleviating mitochondrial dysfunction and ferroptosis, enhancing neuronal survival, reducing oxidative stress, and promoting functional recovery in ischemia‐reperfusion injury, offering a promising therapeutic strategy for ischemic stroke.

Role of the liver in iron metabolism – histochemical iron identification [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
Željezo je potrebno za osnovno funkcioniranje svih stanica u organizmu sisavaca, ali posebnu važnost ima u stanicama koje proizvode hemoglobin i mioglobin. Sisavci primaju željezo isključivo putem prehrane.
