In-Hospital Ischemic Stroke [PDF]

open access: yesThe Neurohospitalist, 2015
Between 2.2% and 17% of all strokes have symptom onset during hospitalization in a patient originally admitted for another diagnosis or procedure. These in-hospital strokes represent a unique population with different risk factors, more mimics, and substantially worsened outcomes compared to community-onset strokes.

FUS Selectively Facilitates circRNAs Packing into Small Extracellular Vesicles within Hypoxia Neuron

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study aimed to unravel the role of FUS in the loading of functional circRNAs into neuronal sEVs under hypoxic conditions, which involves their aggregations in SGs and specific interaction between the FUS Zf_RanBP domain to regulate circRNA sorting in sEVs.

Approach to Ischemic Stroke

open access: yesMcGill Journal of Medicine, 2021
An approach to managing acute ischemic stroke includes recognition, investigations, treatment, and secondary prevention.  Firstly, facial drooping, limb weakness and slurred speech are some common signs that should raise the suspicion for stroke.  Upon presentation, investigations, including the national institute of health stroke scale and a CT head ...

Bilirubin Targeting WNK1 to Alleviate NLRP3‐Mediated Neuroinflammation

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
At physiological concentrations, bilirubin binds to the kinase domain of WNK1, thereby augmenting its activity and facilitating the phosphorylation of downstream SPAK/OSR1. This phosphorylation inhibits KCC2 activity, leading to elevate intracellular chloride levels in neurons.

The role of insulin receptor substrate 1 gene polymorphism Gly972Arg as a risk factor for ischemic stroke among Indonesian subjects

open access: yesBMC Research Notes, 2018
Objective The identification of new genetic-associated risk factor of ischemic stroke could improves strategies for stroke prevention. This study aims to identify insulin receptor substrate 1 (IRS-1) gene polymorphism Gly972Arg as the risk factor for ...

Muscle‐Derived Small Extracellular Vesicles Mediate Exercise‐Induced Cognitive Protection in Chronic Cerebral Hypoperfusion

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
sEVs have a critical role in orchestrating interorgan crosstalk and mediating exercise‐induced therapeutic effects. Lin et al. demonstrates that sEVs miR‐17/20a‐5p mediates the muscle‐brain crosstalk and emphasizes the central role of mTOR signaling in executing molecular programs that can protect brain health in response to exercise. Abstract Physical

Network Desynchronization with Sine Waves: from Synchrony to Asynchrony by Periodic Stimulation

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Exogenous alternating current fields are explored and interact with cerebral cortex slow waves in vitro and in silico. Varying frequency and amplitude of sine waves result in distinct network dynamics, from phase‐locking and entrainment to desynchronization. These responses occupy specific regions within the parameter space.

Association between genetic variant on chromosome 12p13 and stroke survival and recurrence: a one year prospective study in Taiwan

open access: yesJournal of Biomedical Science, 2012
Background The association between ischemic stroke and 2 single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) on chromosome 12p13, rs12425791 and rs11833579 appears inconsistent across different samples.
