The relationship between diabetes and pancreatic cancer [PDF]
About 80% of pancreatic cancer patients have glucose intolerance or frank diabetes. This observation has led to the following two hypotheses: i. pancreatic cancer causes the associated diabetes and ii.

Holothuria leucospilota n‐hexane extract shows antidiabetic, anti‐inflammatory, and anti‐apoptotic effects in STZ‐induced diabetic rats. The extract modulates key pathways in glucose metabolism, insulin secretion, inflammation, and apoptosis. Treatment significantly decreased glucose and amyloid beta levels, increased insulin, and improved glycemic ...

A Tetramer Derived from Islet Amyloid Polypeptide
Aggregation of the islet amyloid polypeptide (IAPP) to form fibrils and oligomers is important in the progression of type 2 diabetes. This article describes X-ray crystallographic and solution-state NMR studies of peptides derived from residues 11-17 of IAPP that assemble to form tetramers.

Sulfated Polysaccharides in the Hallmarks of Metabolic Syndrome: Functions and Mechanisms
The SPs sources are very diverse, including various fishes, sea cucumbers, seaweeds, etc. These SPs are able to improve the glucose and lipid metabolism disorders, hormonal dysregulation, oxidative stress, inflammatory response, complications, and gut homeostasis of MetS by regulating biochemical indicators related to MetS. ABSTRACT Metabolic syndrome (

What's in a Name? Classification of Diabetes Mellitus in Veterinary Medicine and Why It Matters [PDF]
Diabetes Mellitus (DM) is a syndrome caused by various etiologies. The clinical manifestations of DM are not indicative of the cause of the disease, but might be indicative of the stage and severity of the disease process.

Human islet amyloid polypeptide (hIAPP) oligomers, formed through an accumulation pathway, are toxic to insulin‐secreting pancreatic β‐cells and are considered to contribute for β‐cell death and insulin deficiency commonly observed in type 2 diabetes (T2D) patients.

Interaction between amyloid beta peptide and an aggregation blocker peptide mimicking islet amyloid polypeptide. [PDF]
Assembly of amyloid-beta peptide (Aβ) into cytotoxic oligomeric and fibrillar aggregates is believed to be a major pathologic event in Alzheimer's disease (AD) and interfering with Aβ aggregation is an important strategy in the development of novel ...
