On the Influence of Antioxidants and Recycled MgO–C Source Material on the Mechanical Properties of Carbon‐Bonded Magnesia Refractories

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The presented study focuses on the fracture behaviour of carbon‐bonded magnesia MgO–C refractories, where environmentally friendly fructose, collagen and lignin serve as temporary binding agents. The partial substitution of the source material with recycled MgO–C reduces the fracture resistance, which can be counteracted by the additional introduction ...

Isorhamnetin Ameliorates Non-Esterified Fatty Acid-Induced Apoptosis, Lipid Accumulation, and Oxidative Stress in Bovine Endometrial Epithelial Cells via Inhibiting the MAPK Signaling Pathway

open access: yesAntioxidants
High concentrations of non-esterified fatty acids (NEFA) in the blood contribute to various metabolic disorders and are linked to endometritis in dairy cows.

DFT study of the radical scavenging activity of isoxanthohumol, humulones (α-acids), and iso-α-acids from beer [PDF]

open access: yes, 2021
Humulones and iso-humulones are potent natural antioxidants found in beer. In this study, density functional theory (DFT) method was applied for elucidating the structure-antioxidant activity relationship and molecular mechanism of antioxidant activity ...

Influence of Test Temperature and Test Frequency on Fatigue Life of Aluminum Alloy EN AW‐2618A

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The influence of test temperature and test frequency on the fatigue life of EN AW‐2618A is investigated. High‐cycle fatigue tests are performed at different test temperatures and frequencies on the 1000 h/230°C overaged state. Both test parameters reduce fatigue life due to time‐dependent damage mechanisms.

Matured Hop Bitter Acids in Beer Improve Lipopolysaccharide-Induced Depression-Like Behavior

open access: yesFrontiers in Neuroscience, 2019
Recent studies have demonstrated a close association between neural inflammation and development of mental illnesses, such as depression. Clinical trials have reported that treatment with non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs is associated with reduced ...

Amino acid changes during the early stages of tomato wilt disease (Verticillium albo-atrum)

open access: yesPlant Protection Science, 2021
Soil-borne pathogens such as Verticillium species, invade into the roots of many herbaceous and woody hosts. The xylem environment supplies these pathogens with a continuous flow of nitrogen-rich nutrition.

Dynamic Evolution of Bitterness Units in Beer Worts: Modeling and Concerns [PDF]

open access: yes, 2021
Beer bitterness is reported in International Bitterness Units (IBU), which is the concentration (in ppm) of iso-alpha-acids in the product. Such acids result from the isomerization of alpha-acids originally found in hops which is carried out by boiling ...

Exploring Dipolar Dynamics and Ionic Transport in Metal‐Organic Frameworks: Experimental and Theoretical Insights

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
In this study, the interplay of dipolar dynamics and ionic charge transport in MOF compounds is investigated. Synthesizing the novel structure CFA‐25 with integrated freely rotating dipolar groups, local and macroscopic effects, including interactions with Cs cations are explored.
