Aerobic Isolates in Hemovac Lines

Otolaryngology–Head and Neck Surgery, 1980
Positive aerobic isolates from hemovac lines were found in 41 of 68 patients (60%) who had major head and neck procedures requiring the hemovac drainage system during the postoperative period. When studied up to six days of placement, the number and the type of organisms in a hemovac system generally remained the same. A clue to impending infection was

Anaerobic isolates in hemovac lines

The Laryngoscope, 1977
AbstractSeventeen of 68 patients (25 percent) who required the use of hemovac drainage system after major head and neck procedures had positive anaerobic isolates. Co‐isolation of aerobic (94 percent) and other anaerobic (29 percent) microorganisms are common. There was an increased rate of positive anaerobic isolates with procedures requiring exposure

Cell Line Isolation and Design

2011
Biotechnology and genetic engineering have facilitated a new generation of biology-based therapeutic agents known broadly as biopharmaceuticals. Many of these agents address otherwise untreatable diseases, and now represent a worldwide market of over US$100 billion per year.

Perceived orientation of isolated line segments

Vision Research, 1968
Abstract This investigation is concerned with the spatial elaboration of retinal signals occurring in the visual system. Guided by the recent electrophysiological evidence that retinal orientation is among the first isolated spatial cues, we have used a psychophysical method to study the relationship between perceived orientation and geometrical ...

Lens-free in-line optical isolators

Optics Letters, 1999
We constructed a lens-free in-line optical isolator by embedding an isolator chip in a thermally expanded core (TEC) fiber without complicated optical alignment. The chip consists of two pairs of rutile wedges and garnet plates. We fabricated the TEC fibers by heating a single-mode fiber with a 200-mum outer diameter; low loss and a spot diameter as ...

Networks immune to isolated line failures

Networks, 1982
AbstractA network is immune to a set of failures if all message transfers between operative sites can be completed in the presence of such failures. A set of line failures is isolated if no two failing lines are incident to the same site. Several classes of isolated line failure immune (ILFI) networks are defined, including a class with fewest lines ...

Isolating points by lines in the plane

Journal of Geometry, 1998
The authors consider the problems of finding a minimal arrangement of straight lines, or of pseudolines (homeomorphic images of lines), that isolates every point of a specified finite set. Results are obtained for both problems. As can be imagined, the straight-line version of the problem is difficult, and the exact number of lines needed depends on ...

Integration of in-line optical isolators

IEEE Transactions on Magnetics, 1996
A new configuration of an optical isolator chip, which is suitable for use in integrated in-line optical isolators, has been proposed. The chip consists of a birefringent plate, a pair of birefringent wedges, and a Faraday rotator. The configuration makes the best use of transmission characteristics of expanded-core fibers in which the chip is embedded.

Line Isolation Monitor

2017
Frequent fire accidents in operating theaters (OR) prompted the need for safety regulations in ORs. Electrical fires were the cause in many of these misadventures. This prompted the development of policies such as the safe practices in hospital operating rooms. Use of anesthetic gases in ORs worsened the hazard of fires.
