Structure of isothiocyanate methemoglobin

Abstract The structure of the complex of the ambidentate ligand thiocyanate with horse methemoglobin was compared with that of acid methemoglobin and azide methemoglobin by X-ray difference Fourier techniques. Thiocyanate is co-ordinated to iron exclusively by its nitrogen atom, and thus forms the isothiocyanate complex.

During the tapping of papaya latex for papain (EC 3.4.22.2), benzyl isothiocyanate is enzymatically produced from benzylglucosinolate, a major component of the latex fluid. Benzyl isothiocyanate inhibits papain hydrolysis of alpha-N-benzoyl-L-arginine ethyl ester (Bz-Arg-OEt).

Abstract The infra-red (gas- and solid-phase) and Raman spectra of GeH 3 NCS and the infra-red gas-phase spectrum of GeD 3 NCS have been recorded. The assignment of the fundamentals is discussed and it is provisionally concluded that the molecule has a bent skeleton with a GeNC angle of about 156°.
