Engineered surface strategies to manage dental implant‐related infections

open access: yesPeriodontology 2000, EarlyView.
Abstract When exposed to the oral environment, dental implants, like natural surfaces, become substrates for microbial adhesion and accumulation, often leading to implant‐related infections—one of the main causes of implant failure. These failures impose significant costs on patients, clinicians, and healthcare systems.

Valproic acid for treatment of traumatic brain injury: Study protocol for the VIBRANT prospective randomized trial

open access: yesTransfusion, EarlyView.
Abstract Background Traumatic brain injury (TBI) carries significant mortality and morbidity in civilian and military populations. Current treatment guidelines for TBI are primarily supportive, and no pharmacological agent exists to attenuate the progression of brain injury.

Resistance training load does not determine resistance training‐induced hypertrophy across upper and lower limbs in healthy young males

open access: yesThe Journal of Physiology, EarlyView.
Abstract figure legend In healthy young males, we found that skeletal muscle hypertrophy following a period of resistance exercise training (RET) was consistent within and between subjects, as assessed using a variety of established methods. The skeletal muscle hypertrophic response was independent of external load.

Some Properties of a Recently Introduced Approach to Ordinal Regression

open access: yesAustrian Journal of Statistics, 2016
The statistical properties of a novel approach to ordinal regression which was only recently introduced in the literature are discussed. It is shown that for ordinal explanatory variables the approach is equivalent to isotonic regression, with some ...

Generalized continuous isotonic regression

open access: yesStatistics & Probability Letters, 2010
The standard isotonic regression of a vector in is the solution to a least squares projection problem on the cone of vectors with 'increasing components' in . Generalized isotonic regression problems are isotonic optimization problems that seem to be quite different from isotonic regression problems, but in fact have the same solution.

Low‐Head Dam Removal Restores Biofilm Structure but Not Function in a Temperate Stream

open access: yesInternational Review of Hydrobiology, Volume 111, Issue 1, June 2026.
ABSTRACT Barrier removal is a common stream restoration practice aimed at restoring longitudinal connectivity, yet its effects on biofilm structure and function, through alteration of near‐bed hydrodynamics, remain unclear. Using a space‐for‐time substitution approach, we assessed how the presence and removal of a low‐head dam affect biofilm structure ...

Detection of risk clusters for deaths due to tuberculosis specifically in areas of southern Brazil where the disease was supposedly a non-problem

open access: yesBMC Infectious Diseases, 2019
Background Tuberculosis (TB) is the infectious disease that kills the most people worldwide. The use of geoepidemiological techniques to demonstrate the dynamics of the disease in vulnerable communities is essential for its control.

Optimal Reduced Isotonic Regression

open access: yes, 2014
Isotonic regression is a shape-constrained nonparametric regression in which the regression is an increasing step function. For $n$ data points, the number of steps in the isotonic regression may be as large as $n$. As a result, standard isotonic regression has been criticized as overfitting the data or making the representation too complicated.
