Improving the Finite Sample Estimation of Average Treatment Effects Using Double/Debiased Machine Learning With Propensity Score Calibration

open access: yesJournal of Applied Econometrics, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Double/debiased machine learning (DML) uses for estimating an average treatment effect (ATE) a double‐robust score function that relies on the prediction of nuisance functions, such as the propensity score, which is the probability of treatment assignment given covariates.

Exercise with fasting or isotonic drink? A randomized controlled trial in youth elite basketball players

open access: yesJournal of the International Society of Sports Nutrition
Background Pre-exercise carbohydrate intake is known to influence performance; however, data describing their effect on cardiorespiratory parameters is scarce.

High‐pressure homogenization and pH‐shifting modification of hazelnut protein isolates: Functional enhancement, allergenicity reduction, and probiotic microencapsulation performance

open access: yesJournal of the Science of Food and Agriculture, EarlyView.
Abstract BACKGROUND Plant‐based proteins, such as hazelnut protein isolates (HPIs), often exhibit limited solubility and functionality, as well as allergenic potential, thereby limiting their applicability in food products. This investigation sought to improve the techno‐functional characteristics of HPI and mitigate its allergenicity via high‐pressure

A Semismooth Newton-Based Augmented Lagrangian Algorithm for the Generalized Convex Nearly Isotonic Regression Problem

open access: yesMathematics
The generalized convex nearly isotonic regression problem addresses a least squares regression model that incorporates both sparsity and monotonicity constraints on the regression coefficients.

On Order Restricted Inference in Multi‐Step Stage Life Testing for a General Family of Distributions

open access: yesNaval Research Logistics (NRL), EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Recently, k$$ k $$‐step stage life testing (SLT) has been proposed by Laumen and Cramer (2021) as a natural extension of progressive censoring with fixed censoring times (PC‐FCT) as well as of simple step‐stress accelerated life testing (SSALT).

Median Effective Volume of 0.2% Ropivacaine for Ultrasound‐Guided Axillary Brachial Plexus Block in Children Aged 6–10 Years: A Prospective Dose‐Finding Study Using Up‐and‐Down Sequential Allocation

open access: yesPediatric Discovery, EarlyView.
Purpose: This study aimed to determine the median effective volume (EV50) of 0.2% ropivacaine for ultrasound‐guided axillary brachial plexus block (ABPB) in children aged 6–10 years, using the Dixon up‐and‐down method. The EV50 was 0.350 mL/kg (95% CI: 0.197–0.362 mL/kg), calculated by isotonic regression and bootstrapping.

Stop Using Limiting Stimuli as a Measure of Sensitivities of Energetic Materials

open access: yesPropellants, Explosives, Pyrotechnics, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Accurately estimating the sensitivity of explosive materials is a potentially life‐saving task that requires standardised protocols across nations. One of the most widely applied procedures worldwide is the so‐called ‘1‐In‐6’ test from the United Nations (UN) Manual of Tests in Criteria, which estimates a ‘limiting stimulus’ for a material. In

Changes in choroidal and retinal thickness 6 months before and during 18 months of orthokeratology lens treatment in myopic children

open access: yesActa Ophthalmologica, EarlyView.
Abstract Purpose To investigate changes in choroidal and retinal thickness before and during myopia control treatment with orthokeratology lenses (OKL) in myopic children. Methods This was a sub‐study of CONTROL and CONTROL2 studies. The present study was a 2‐year, prospective, single‐group interventional study consisting of a 6‐month pre‐treatment ...

Effective dose of intranasal remimazolam for preoperative sedation in preschool children: a dose-finding study using Dixon’s up-and-down method

open access: yesFrontiers in Pharmacology
Background:Most preschool children are distressed during anesthesia induction. While current pharmacological methods are useful, there is a need for further optimization to an “ideal” standard.

Gβγ subunit activation of KV7 and BKCa channels underlies calcitonin gene‐related peptide vasorelaxation in myogenic rat coronary resistance arteries

open access: yesBritish Journal of Pharmacology, EarlyView.
Abstract Background and Purpose CGRP is a potent, clinically relevant coronary vasodilator known to play a role in cardioprotection. Here, we investigated the precise intracellular signalling pathways leading to vasodilation in small coronary arteries.
