Iturin: cyclic lipopeptide with multifunction biological potential

Critical Reviews in Food Science and Nutrition, 2021
Iturin, a metabolite produced by Bacillus subtilis, has a broad-spectrum antibacterial effect, and because they are secreted in the rhizosphere of plants, iturins are often mixed with many organic molecules. In recent years, people have improved their separation and purification methods but still cannot achieve simple and effective procedures, making ...

Specific inhibition of iturin biosynthesis by cerulenin

Canadian Journal of Microbiology, 1990
Cerulenin, an inhibitor of fatty acid synthesis, inhibits the biosynthesis of iturin by Bacillus subtilis. With a cerulenin concentration of 2 μg/mL, 50% inhibition was achieved. At this concentration, cerulenin does not affect growth or total protein synthesis but does inhibit the incorporation of sodium [14C]acetate, [14C]myristic acid, and [14C ...

Pore-forming properties of iturin A, a lipopeptide antibiotic

Biochimica et Biophysica Acta (BBA) - Biomembranes, 1985
The addition of iturin A, a lipopeptide antibiotic extracted from Bacillus subtilis, to a bimolecular lipid membrane (BLM) increases dramatically its electrical conductance. For very low concentration of iturin A, discrete conductance steps are observed which are assigned to the formation of conducting pores.

Calculations of the Conformations of Iturin A in Relation with NMR Studies

Journal of Biomolecular Structure and Dynamics, 1985
Iturin A is an antifungal antibiotic which was isolated from a strain of Bacillus subtilis, and contains a lipophilic beta amino acid closing an heptapeptide cycle with polar L and D residues. Iturin A belongs to a lipopeptide family of which the LDDLLDL sequence is kept constant.

Iturin A: A potential new fungicide for stored grains

Mycopathologia, 1994
The removal of many synthetic fungicides from the market has created a demand for new, environmentally safe fungicides. Iturin A, a cyclic lipopeptide produced by Bacillus subtilis, has strong antifungal properties and low mammalian toxicity. To determine the efficacy of this compound as a potential fungicide on stored feed grains, lots of corn ...

Interactions of antibiotics of the iturin group with human erythrocytes

Biochimica et Biophysica Acta (BBA) - Biomembranes, 1986
The peptidolipid antibiotics, iturin A and bacillomycin L have a disrupting effect on erythrocyte membrane leading to a simultaneous release of K+ ions and hemoglobin. The formation of ghosts is accompanied by a partial solubilisation of lipid components.

ChemInform Abstract: ITURIN AL: STRUCTURE AND DERIVATIVES OF A PEPTIDOLIPID WITH A HIGH CONTENT OF C16‐ITURINIC ACIDS

Chemischer Informationsdienst, 1984
AbstractBacillus subtilis A l l4 produziert das Peptidolipid lturin A, (I) mit hoher antifungischer Aktivität. lturin AL (I) ist ein schwierig zu trennendes Gemisch (Ia)‐(lD (HPLC‐Auftrennung) aufgrund homologer β‐Aminofettsäure (lturinsäure)‐Bausteine (IIa)‐(IIf‐) mit den im Formelschema (in Klammern) angegebenen prozentualen Anteilen.

Interactions of the lipopeptide antifungal iturin A with lipids in mixed monolayers

Biochimica et Biophysica Acta (BBA) - Biomembranes, 1989
The miscibility and the interactions of the antifungal lipopeptide iturin A with lipids, DMPC and cholesterol, are studied in monolayers at the air/water interface and a comparison of the respective behaviour of iturin A and the biologically inactive methylated derivative MeTyr-iturin A is made.

Structure of iturine A, a peptidolipid antibiotic from Bacillus subtilis

Biochemistry, 1978
A mixture of iturines extracted from Bacillus subtilis gave, on column chromatography, iturine A, iturine B, and iturine C. Iturine A has the entire antifungal activity. It is a mixture of two homologous peptidolipids C48,H74N12O14 and C49H76N12O14 (mp 177 degrees C, [alpha]D-1.7 degrees in methanol (c 0.05 g/mL); mol wt 1042 and 1056).
